Concentric AI Semantic Intelligence

Concentric leverages AI/LLM for its classification of structured and unstructured data across just about any data store currently in use by any given company, and it does so with a very high degree of fidelity/accuracy, w/out any agents. The categorization and sub-categorization is likewise very accurate so it's not just telling you what's inside of the data but also what 'type' of data it is, who is accessing it, and how. It also provides a visual lineage feature (unstructured data only at this time) that some other prominent vendors are only just now providing/releasing, and at additional cost/sku item instead of including it in the base licensing like Concentric does. I guess what I appreciate the most is that it is providing for pretty much every feature/requirement we are in need of without adding additional cost to the base licensing.

The Concentric.ai platform works as advertised. Concentric.ai is easy to implement, is precise without relying on end-user input or tuning, produces results quickly, and enables customers to focus on correcting data security issues rather than tuning out false positives. Concentric.ai has also made several acquisitions to continue building a broader platform, which is a theme in this highly competitive data governance and data security space. These acquisitions have added more AI governance and responsible AI enablement capabilities, which is a growing and rapidly maturing area of the data security space.

As we have yet to even onboard most intended data sources, this is a difficult one to gauge and I would have to do so largely based on our PoC experience. Minor gripe to start with is their documentation. It's largely there/available but spotty and access within the UI itself is limited only to setting up data sources for onboarding/scanning. What they should do here is setup a dedicated documentation 'library', complete with ToC, as some of their competitors have done. Second, during our PoC the scanning of on prem Windows SMB shares stalled for some period of time despite deployment of the required on prem proxy VM and all else being equally healthy/normal. But the stalled scanning was resolved in a reasonable amount of time by their excellent support team. Third, the database scanning is limited to 'who' has access to 'what' database tables and of course the classification and categorization of the databases themselves. We would really like to see activity/access akin to what is visible on the unstructured sources, although it's understood that this is not an actual 'DAM' product. Maybe this is something that can be enhanced as a roadmap item and/or via their acquisition of Acante in mid-2025.

The Concentric AI team has been great to work with. Which says a lot about the company. We has over 700 vendors and not all the contracts teams are as easy to work with.

Concentric.ai, like most other modern data security and DSPM solutions, has purposely decided not to cover some data storage types. The list is pretty small and they are mostly very legacy storage varieties or storage vendors that don't have a robust API to leverage for integration. But it does force organizations with these data stores to decide on a multi-vendor solution or take a different approach. Concentric.ai is a completely agentless solution. While this is a strength by most standards, it does limit the platform's ability to move more into the UEBA and Insider Risk spaces, or log actions directly which is a strength for some of the agent based legacy data security platforms or newer data security solutions that have integrations with security endpoint clients deployed by organizations.
