Product Information on HashiCorp Consul

Updated 13th October 2025

What is HashiCorp Consul?

HashiCorp Consul is a software designed for service networking that provides service discovery, configuration, and segmentation functionality for distributed applications. The software enables automated management of service connectivity through features such as service registry, health checking, and key-value storage for dynamic configuration. Consul integrates with infrastructure platforms to facilitate service mesh deployment, network middleware automation, and secure service-to-service communication. By offering visibility into service health and network topology, the software addresses the challenge of efficient service management in complex, cloud-native and multi-cloud environments. It supports both centralized and decentralized workflows, helping organizations ensure resilient and scalable service networking across their infrastructure.

HashiCorp Consul Pricing

HashiCorp Consul software typically follows a subscription-based pricing model that is structured by deployment options, such as self-managed or cloud-based, and tiers that depend on usage limits, feature sets, and the level of support required. Pricing may vary based on the number of nodes or workloads managed by the software.

FAVORABLE

“A good tool for Service to Service communication, better than designing your own.”

We use Hashicorp Consul for Service to Service communication networks. We have tried inhouse solutions for achieveing S2S communication but the architecture was always resulting in security concerns hence we moved to hashicorp consul. Since it is cloud native solution it was easy to install and set up although documentation for set up and integration is a bit confusing and we had to wait for long to get in touch with customer srvice to resolve our issues. Overall a great tool to accomplish service mesh architecture within our products

CRITICAL

“Practical solution integrate well with Service mesh model”

3.0
Nov 18, 2022
We use consul as part distributed setup between our different clouds deployments. Unfortunately with the patching request announced recently however the recommended upgrade version of consul didn't work with our other products. Beside the above issue overall I am satisfy with the functionality of Consul and it integrates with other products well.
