“Robust Multi-Vendor DDI Overlay with Scalability and Automation Benefits Tempered by some UI and API Endpoint Limitations”

4.0
May 12, 2026
As the implementation lead, my experience was for the most part positive due to the product's non-intrusive overlay architecture. Unlike traditional DDI migrations that require hardware upgrades of some sort, Micetro allowed us to bring our existing Microsoft and Bind Servers under a unified management pane in a matter of days rather than months. The experience, though, had its own challenges. Micetro is an excellent mirror, it showed us in rather explicit ways how messy the data we had was and that made the first 30 days of implementation a heavy lift for the team in terms of data cleansing.

They know what they are doing! Cross network vision! Easy to restrict certain users based on comfort/knowledge level.

Support team is top notch. Extremely easy to communicate with. I consider myself, not to be the best at these topics, but they make it easier to understand and navigate.

Orchestrates our DHCP/DNS services without replacing them, with simplicity, efficiency and easy of installation. Works fine with Microsoft services. IPAM is able to collect via SNMP the different IP ranges from our Cisco Catalyst/Nexus switches.

Performance of Micetro Across Market Features

Micetro Likes & Dislikes

Like

The most standout feature for me about Micetro is the REST Api and the Terraform Provider. They allow for fast and efficient deployment. We were able to automate IPAM assignments within our CI/CD Pipeline in about 12 working days. The second thing I liked about Micetro is not specifically about the product itself but their support. It's a rare experience when you get technically proficient support from Enterprise solution providers. Bluecat's support team is just that. If you open a ticket, you are assured of getting a tier 2 resource within less than 24 hours, and most of them understand BIND and Windows DNS internals. The third thing that Micetro has going for it in my opinion is its scalability. The organization for which we deployed the solution for has a presence in three countries and we were able to scale across those countries. We can manage local DNS nodes via thin agents which is a highly efficient utilization of both bandwidth and latency management.

Like

Cross network vision and ease of menus. Many users of this software, and even I, am able to provide training to the partners that use it - quite amazing. Again, emphasizing a global implementation. So my trainings may be with users where we have difficulty understanding each other.

Like

Ability to create DHCP scopes/reservations with few clicks, and manage the corresponding DNS entries quickly. Web interface is fast and visually appealing.

Dislike

One of the most noticeable weaknesses I noticed occurred when syncing complex Microsoft DHCP failover relationships. You had times when these produced ghost leases in the UI and you had to manually refresh the agent services to get them cleared out. The second issue I had with Micetro was that even though the documentation was great, when we stumbled across some obscure API endpoints then you ran into the lack of robustness. The third, and perhaps the most glaring, is noticeable when transitioning between the legacy management console and the newer Web UI. The experience is jarring, especially given that some advanced features have not yet been fully migrated to the web-based interface.

Dislike

In this moment... I can't really think of one. I guess needing to run a script in the background, but that's always been known that we needed this... but I tried to pick one. It's not a dislike, really. Just wanted to put something here

Dislike

Doesn't support Palo Alto SNMP pooling. Embeeded reporting doesn't mix datasource (DNS and IPAM) - you have to combine the results yourself if you have a specific need.
