We were drawn to this product for the depth of its Java support, but have found the rest of the company becoming very quickly excited about opportunities to use it with other languages. The combination of a thriving open source community and proprietary recipes and capabilities has been an incredible accelerator for my team and our ability to rollout custom upgrades and migrations in a reliable manner across the company. It has not only opened up new capabiites for the team, but has also enabled us to sunset multiple homegrown systems that were only scratching the surface of what we can do npw.

It's incredibly vast and scalable. The high availability of what Moderne can do is astounding in my opinion. It cuts down the amount of time that is spent on remediating and upgrading from what would have taken weeks to half a day or a couple of hours. I used it a lot as a DevOps engineer with legacy upgrades and trying to find dependencies. This was almost a daily effort in that position and I really appreciated how easy of a tool it was to use and how descriptive the LSTs were. If there isn't an immediate solution to my problem I am trying to fix, I can easily create one.

My most appreciated strength of the Moderne Platform is the consistency of the output. The recipes used by the platform produce a deterministic output which makes using it to migrate our software a consistent and reliable process and builds trust in the results of our upgrade project. Another major strength of the platform is the ability to write our own recipes. My organization has many of our own development patterns and dependencies and the ability to write recipes which performs specific migrations for those on top of the provided recipes has been very helpful. The final major strength would be ease of use. The Moderne platform has an integration to allow for commits to the code to be made from the platform itself which reduces context switching and allows operations to be done at scale.

We've hit some limitations due to our internal systems which has made onboarding less smooth than we would have liked. We also found ourselves needing to custom build observability for the ingestion into the system. These problems are more a function of our internal systems than Moderne.

When I first started using the tool, I had to read a lot of documentation on what did what in the UI and speak with coworkers that had been using it for longer than I had to figure it out. I am still not a fan of how Marketplace is organized. As someone who is trying to get developers to use the tool - it's a lot to look at and can initially be seen as overwhelming and not inviting.

The weaknesses we have encountered have mostly been around integration with the platform. While the platform has a fairly comprehensive API it has some notable gaps in the information which can be retrieved from it. The platform also doesn't have support for any kind of service accounts so integration with it for automation requires a generic id.

The communication and passion from the team is incredible and palpable. I have never used a product where the CEO had his hands in the code and helping customers personally. For me, the communication channel for how to make this tool better and even more scalable is the most efficient way to gain trust from your customers because they know someone is really listening. The tool itself is useful to all teams in our department - from reporting, to security, to developer teams, and management. I don't think there is a single part of our department that would not and has not benefited from this tool. I always recommend it for any issues anyone is having with dependency management or upgrade qualms.

Moderne has provided excellent value to our team in helping us complete a major java modernizations project. Using Moderne and OpenRewrite we have been able to automate close to 80-90% of the necessary code changes which significantly exceeded our initial expectations for the tool.

I have had a long relationship, first with the OpenRewrite part where I have used it for code analysis. (Was interested in access to the java AST). Then suggested Moderne as a tool for my org. We have a CLI license. Took part in negotiations. Excellent support in all phases.
