Market Presence: Observability Platforms, Telemetry Pipelines (Transitioning to Observability Pipelines)

Overview

Product Information on OpenObserve

Updated 8th September 2025

What is OpenObserve?

Legacy observability platforms are increasingly failing to meet modern cloud-native requirements while imposing unsustainable financial and operational burdens. OpenObserve has been built from the ground up to help companies rein in the exploding costs of logs, traces, and metrics and address degraded performance at scale.

OpenObserve Pricing

OpenObserve employs a transparent, consumption-based pricing model that meters usage based on data ingest volume and product feature consumption. This approach ensures customers pay only for what they use, providing cost predictability and scalability.

Unified telemetry management remains out of reach with deceptive data reporting

It promises a lot, but then falls short of it. It is not easy to have one unified backend for all telemetry types, and there is a reason for it, they have different storage details.

OpenObserve Likes & Dislikes

Dislike

It does not provide accurate information. On a small cluster, it was display as ingesting terabytes of data, and compressing it to megabytes, that was simply not possible. So much so that when changing the time period, instead of showing megabytes of compress data, it showed a negative number! The UI/UX is also not good, too convoluted and squashed. And it does not follow Open Standards, like OpenTelemetry (or at least it didn't when we used it). It is deceptive.
