OrbusInfinity provides a practical and effective way to implement TOGAF within a real-world enterprise context. It strikes a strong balance between methodological structure and flexibility, allowing us to tailor the metamodel, viewpoints, and governance processes to align with our EA practice rather than forcing a rigid out-of-the-box approach. The Visio integration is particularly valuable - it allows architects to model using familiar tools while simultaneously creating and updating OrbusInfinity objects and relationships. This significantly improves adoption and data quality.
It has remained fairly stable with little change at its core from the fully on-premise version.
OrbusInfinity generally offers a great range of functionality needed for Enterprise Architecture. The tool has a modern, intuitive UI which enables users to quickly get going with adoption, and their roadmap only continues to develop this further. The native integration with Microsoft provides a familiar look and feel and allows for the utilisation of existing systems. The out-of-the-box solutions are a great way to get started with using the tool and provide a good source of potential use cases to consider. One of the highlights is Orbus' customer service - they are always keen to support us in achieving our EA goals, and will dedicate time and resources to make sure that any issues are resolved. Their roadmap truly focuses on customer needs, which is evident by the continuous engagement, gathering of feedback and user group events.
The main limitation we encounter is the performance of the visio integration when modeling at large scale with thousands of objects and relationships. These issues tend to surface in more complex views rather than everyday use. We have, however, seen continuous improvements in the plugin and are confident in the direction of ongoing enhancements.
Modern users expect to perform all tasks through Web UIs on multiple platforms, so the bare-bones diagramming possibilities through a custom and expensive Draw addon are very disappointing. APIs are difficult to work with for developers used to well abstracted and fully documented interfaces with examples.
As with any tool, there are some areas for development and some small design choices which are a bit clunky, for example, how multiple metamodels get integrated, lack of data in edit screens etc., as well as how cache can affect the tool. All fairly minor things though, which I expect will be resolved as the platform gets developed further.
