Tosca delivers powerful model-based test automation that excels in long term maintainability, but comes with a steep learning curve and a relatively heavy structured ecosystem.
My overall experience with Tosca has been quite positive, particularly after getting past the initial learning phase. At first, the tool can feel somewhat overwhelming, especially because it does not follow the traditional script-based approach that many testers are familiar with. However, once I became comfortable with its model-based testing philosophy, the advantages became much clearer. One of the most effective aspects in my POV is its emphasis on reusability through modules. By abstracting UI elements and actions into reusable components, it significantly reduces duplication and simplifies long term maintenance for the team. Instead of repeatedly updating multiple test scripts, changes can often be handled at the model level, which then in turn is reflected across all related test cases. The AI assisted element recognition and test stabilization reduces flaky tests, especially in environments where the UI changes frequently. That being said, the tool does come with certain challenges. Despite being positioned as a code-less solution, it still requires a strong conceptual understanding of test design and structure. If the initial modeling is not done thoughtfully, it can lead to complexity and reduced efficiency later on. The setup and overall ecosystem can also feel heavy, making it less suitable for smaller projects or teams looking for a quicker implementation Overall, I would say Tosca is a powerful and well-structured testing platform that delivers the most value in large, complex environments where maintainability is a priority. While it may not be the best fit for every use case, it performs very effectively when implemented with the right level of planning and discipline.
