Overview

Product Information on Uber

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Uber?

Uber is a software that enables users to request transportation and delivery services through a mobile application or web platform. It connects users with independent drivers or couriers who use their own vehicles to provide rides or deliver items. The software utilizes GPS technology for real-time location tracking, route optimization, and estimated arrival times. Payment transactions are handled digitally within the software, which also allows users to rate service experiences and access historical trip or delivery records. Uber addresses challenges related to urban mobility by facilitating on-demand access to transportation and delivery services, offering features that streamline booking, tracking, and payments for both individual and business users.

Uber Pricing

Uber is a service that uses a variable pricing model based on factors such as time, distance, location, and demand. The service charges a base fare with additional fees for time and distance traveled. Dynamic pricing, sometimes referred to as surge pricing, may apply during periods of high demand, resulting in higher fares. Users can view fare estimates before confirming a ride, and some regions may offer subscription or membership plans.

I mainly use Uber with cabs and bikes booking. The app is user-friendly; riders can quickly find rides and it also reliably tracks commutes, so daily commuting is easier. What has worked well: 1. Booking process that is both smooth and also easy. 2. Wide availability of rides. 3. Reliable tracking plus electronic payment options. What hasn't worked well: 1. Occasional driver cancellations. 2. Peak hour surge pricing. 3. Arrival delays involving drivers occur sometimes.

“Uber’s Dominance Impacts Public Transit and Creates Concerns Over Pricing Transparency”

3.0
Jun 27, 2025
Uber is an essential part of our transit infrastructure, yet as a private company, it functions counterproductively to city/municipality services such as buses or trains. Price-gouging happens frequently and for unexplained reasons, with no transparency. As a result, we are beholden to a lot of manufactured issues. However, the convenience is undeniable if one ignores the niche they have created to occupy. Private rides are luxurious, convenient, and rapid. The shared service is marginally cheaper if you're willing to risk additional transit time. Occasionally, you might get a larger, higher-end vehicle who accepts a regular ride, resulting in a comfortable ride. The platform itself has great potential to expand further into delivery and shipping roles as they do internationally. The advancement of AI and self-driving vehicles may also largely improve Uber safety and throughput, at the cost of employment opportunities. Overall, I use it because I need to, or because my company will only reimburse Uber as a private transportation option.

Uber Simplifies Expense Tracking But Faces Ride Request and Payment Issues

    5.0
    Nov 10, 2025
Uber has been a great piece to our business. It allows for easy travel and tracking of ride-share expenses. I prefer to use Uber moreso than any other rideshare app out there. The interface and look/feel is much better quality than others.

Uber Likes & Dislikes

Like

I like how uber so conveniently and so reliably transports me each day. 1. Cabs plus bikes are usually simple to find, with fast ride availability, even during busy hours. 2. An app that is user-friendly, with an interface that runs smoothly, bookings are easy and estimates are clear. 3. Live tracking as well safety features include real-time updates with route sharing. Emergency options increase confidence during travel.

Like

Uber is excellent if you catch one at the right time. There's nothing like a 2 minute wait time with a cheerful driver that is willing to help you with your bags or stuff an extra friend into the backseat to save money. The receipts are always clearly itemized with a detailed travel report, making for easy reimbursement in a corporate context. Their presence is steadfast nationally, so it's hard to find places where you can't Uber these days.

Like

Application is easy to use, you know the price for a ride, and you can plan your ride in advance. Drivers are punctual.

Dislike

Sometimes the experience feels inconsistent, most notably with drivers along with prices. 1. Driver cancellations are the cause of delays and of inconvenience. Last-minute instances of this are especially problematic. 2. Surge pricing means fares will increase sharply during peak hours and this makes rides more expensive. 3. Inconsistent arrival times cause drivers to arrive late or rake long detours despite appearing nearby.

Dislike

As mentioned before, Uber has occupied too large of a role in the public sphere, to the detriment of traffic patterns, public transit operation and funding, and more. This creates artificial scarcities at times and implements price-gouging, titled surge pricing, with no clear delineation.

Dislike

I don't like occasional price surges during peak hours, especially at airports and railway stations. This can make rides unexpectedly expensive.
