“Power BI stands out for its seamless integration but faces performance challenges”

Dec 30, 2025
My overall experience with Power BI is a positive one, considering it the de facto standard for Business Intelligence in the Microsoft ecosystem and one of the most comprehensive on the market. What works exceptionally well is its seamless integration: from connecting to data in Azure, SQL Server, or Excel, through transformation with Power Query, to secure publishing and sharing via the web service, everything feels like a unified environment.

What Your Peers Are Saying About Microsoft Power BI

IT Manager
Is anyone using a central AI to report on project status in realtime highlighting dependencies and bottlenecks. Or are you just connecting project management systems (MS Project, Jira, Primavera) to dashboards with Power BI or Tableau?
CIO
Leading indicators are super useful because they give you a heads-up about potential problems instead of just telling you what’s already gone wrong. We are using an AI powered tool ( can't be named here, I guess) that gets you insights that help you notice issues before they escalate. Plus, it really encourages everyone to be transparent about project status so the whole team knows what’s going on from the get-go. This openness motivates everyone to take responsibility and helps build strong teams that tackle problems early on and stay focused on their goals together. Traditional reporting often comes too late to make necessary changes. By being proactive and embracing transparency with some AI support, teams can adapt and improve on their own. The key is to catch issues early and empower teams to make adjustments as needed. AI plays a role in all team decisions, like a performance coach, and also helps out at the management level. It identifies risks and suggests improvements for senior executives. I hope that helps? 🙂

We are looking to modernize our Data & Analytics landscape. We have SAP BW & BusinessObjects(BO)/Analysis for Office(AO) now and  planning to move lake house based technology for DW and Power BI reporting. How was your experience in terms if  1.  Analysis for office(AO) replacement? 2.Overall change Management?
Data Manager
SAP Analysis for Office is not something I would recommend after using it for five years. It is clunky. The Azure storage/ Azure Data Factory/Power BI is perhaps the way to go. You can easily convert your SAP BO SQL to direct query method in PBI.

    5.0
    Jun 16, 2026
Power BI has become a transformative analytics platform in our organization, moving us beyond traditional reporting into a more proactive and intelligent way of working . With the increasing volumes of data across business functions, Power BI has helped us centralize analysis, reduce manual reporting and turn information into actionabble business outcomes . It standout because it enables a more agentic approach to analytics, where insights are not limited to static dashboards but actively support forecasting and decision making. Its ability to combine semantic business context with AI drive analysis has improved how we monitor portfolio performance, identify trends and uncover market opportunities. integration across OS has also strengthened visibility across our teams and reduced the efforts to prepare reports and generate insights manually

PowerBI Balances Integration and Accessibility With Some Gaps in Maturity and Flexibility

    4.0
    Apr 7, 2026
Overall our experience with PowerBI has been positive, particularly in terms of accessibility and value. It's a platform that has evolved quickly and continues to improve, with a steady flow of new features and enhancements. While it doesn't always feel as mature or polished as some longer-established tools, it makes up for that with strong integration across the wider Microsoft ecosystem and a relatively low barrier to entry. For many use cases, it offers a good balance between capability, cost and ease of adoption.

A powerful, intuitive analytics platform that elevates Demand planning visibility and decision-making

    5.0
    Jan 24, 2026
My overall experience with Power BI has been very positive. It provides a powerful, user-friendly platform for building interactive dashboards and turning large, complex datasets into clear, actionable insights. The interface is intuitive, and features like drilldowns, dynamic filters, and natural language queries make it easy to explore data quickly. Integration with Excel, SharePoint, and other MS tools also streamlines reporting and collaboration across teams. While there is a learning curve for advanced modeling, the flexibility and visualization capabilities have significantly enhanced our ability to analyze performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

Performance of Microsoft Power BI Across Market Features

Microsoft Power BI Likes & Dislikes

Like

1: This is its absolute advantage. Connecting to Azure SQL Database, Synapse, Dataverse, or even a simple Excel spreadsheet in SharePoint Online is just a matter of clicks. 2: Despite its moderate learning curve, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is an incredibly powerful and flexible language. 3: Publishing reports from the desktop to the service is simple and opens up a world of possibilities: interactive dashboards accessible from any browser or the mobile app, data alerts, scheduled updates, and, above all, excellent collaboration.

Like

I lke that PowerBI is easy to use for creating dashboards, integrates well with Microsoft tools, and helps turn data into clear and useful insights.

Like

Power BI transforms data from a reporting asset into an active decision support capability. The use of reusable semantic logics and standardized calculations ensure consistency across reports and allow insights to remain aligned with our business definitions especially when analyzing real estate performance and finances. Its proactive monitoring and realtime insight have also added significant value. instead of waiting for scheduled reports, Power BI help surface anomalies and performance shifts early, enabling faster response to operational changes. Combined with realtime processing and automated alerts , this creates a stronger visibility across our workflow. Another capability we have found valuable is conversational and autonomous analysis. Features such as natural language querying and copilot makes analysis more accessible to our non technical stakeholders by allowing our team to explore insights through simple business questions. The ability to extend this further with custom AI driven workflows creates opportunities to automate actions and improve responsiveness across our operations

Dislike

1: The desktop development environment can become very slow and unstable when working with models that exceed several gigabytes or have complex relationships and many tables. 2: While DAX is a strength, it also presents a significant barrier to entry. To go beyond basic reporting, it's necessary to understand tabular modeling concepts (inherited from DataVertis), filter contexts (row context vs. filter context), and complex functions. 3: The licensing structure can be confusing and costly at an enterprise scale. The difference between PRO (per user) and Premium (per capacity or per user) capabilities is significant.

Dislike

Performance can slow down with large datasets, some customizations are not very intuitive, and advanced features can take time to learn.

Dislike

While power Bi delivers strong analytical capabilities, implementing advanced analytics and unlocking its full agentic potential requires more technical effort than initially expected. Building and maintaining complex models, preparing data and configuring advanced reporting workflow still depend heavily on skilled data and analytics teams
