Managed Detection and Response

Gartner defines managed detection and response (MDR) services as those that provide customers with remotely delivered security operations center (SOC) functions. These functions allow organizations to perform rapid detection, analysis, investigation and response through threat disruption and containment. They offer a turnkey experience, using a predefined technology stack that commonly covers endpoints, networks, logs and cloud. Telemetry is analyzed within a provider’s platform using a range of techniques. The MDR provider’s analyst team then performs threat hunting and incident management to deliver recommended actions to their clients.
MDR offers outcome-driven security incident management that is predicated on the detection, analysis and investigation of potentially impactful security events and the delivery of active threat disruption and containment actions to respond to and mitigate the impact of cyber breaches.

We have had Arctic Wolf for three years and starting out they were not delivering what we expected. Over the years they have continued to grow and increase their service offerings to better assist in this space. They are definitely working to improve.

Arctic Wolf MDR is a great product and monitoring tool, but the service is very bad

Arctic Wolf have well designed and streamlined processes for the IT security. The concierge team helps with training, discussions and concrete tips. We follow up status regularly. Sophos MDR is a good solution for those within the Sophos environment. It has a couple of integration features, yet there are not a lot of options into custom telemetry inputs so far without some additional licensing for integrations. If you are single-platform, it's great.

The installation was smooth and straight forward, the interface was clean and easy to use, some issues at the start with resources on devices.

Overall, our account managers do excellent work and communicate well. The MDR team is prompt and thorough. The tier 1 support is a bit lackluster.

Sophos has been a solid solution with good ideas in regard to the security echo system, but there is room for improvement for tighter integration of 3rd party systems.

Communitcation with Sophos and its partners is often easy and highly skilled at a technical level. Problems are quickly identified and analyzed and rectified by specialist staff. In the MDR department, East Asian call centers are avoided and you end up directly with qualified employees. 

Sophos MTR which provides human LED Threat hunting, Investigate the suspicious activity and proactive response. 360 degree view and peace of mind.

The service is 100% remotely done and behind the scenes. I was hoping to speak to someone regarding some advisories received in the email but there is no support line.

In today's ever-changing IT landscape, it's very difficult for a small business (and by proxy, a very small IT team) to keep up with the latest security demands. That's why we partnered with Sophos for their MDR services - now we have a whole security team available 24/7 to assist us when an emergency occurs. 

We use their XDR product, which is basically a very good antivirus, on steroids. Their system has the ability to integrate with your entire network... firewall integrations, web content filtering, Microsoft 365 integrations, and MANY more. What that means: if a threat tries to move laterally across your network, or into your cloud services, it will be able to track it and will attempt to rectify the issue. And in the chance that the Sophos agent cannot resolve the threat, you have security engineers 24/7 on speed dial to assist. 

We have not seen a major threat in our time with Sophos, but we did see a false positive once, and it was refreshing how quickly their engineers reached out to us. 

I also wanted to touch base on deployment and training. We had a dedicated engineer who gave us advice on deploying the product, which was a simple install deployment, and then invited us to a class on how to use the product. Our trainer went over everything from licensing, customizable policies, and even gave us a "lab" to test out the product in a compromised environment. This was a fantastic learning experience. 

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - IT

Earlier it was very difficult for us to manage the alerts and incidents generated by the tools and technology but after MDR Complete deployment on our endpoints and servers we have complete peace of mind. We also have other products from Sophos so our overall experience from a manageability point of view is also good, we also deployed managed risk from Sophos which not only gives External Attack Surface Management but Internal Attack Surface Management capabilities as well.

Having Sophos support their own endpoint, firewall, and email security products with their own staff's MDR service has taken our confidence in their critical responses to a new level. Our IT staff sleeps better at night. Knowing the MDR engineers have the authority to isolate suspect systems during nights and weekends is critical for a business that does employ a 24-hour IT staff.
