Ariba stands out for its ability to integrate buyers and suppliers on a single platform, facilitating communication and ensuring that all stages of the process occur transparently and traceably. The automation of sourcing events, approval workflows, and negotiations directly contributes to greater agility and control. Another strong point is governance: Ariba allows rules, policies, and approvals to be applied consistently, reducing risks and increasing the reliability of information. The platform also offers reports that support management analysis and monitoring of process performance.
The ability to centralise our purchase requests, and integrate with third parties such as Amazon Business have been a huge win for the company. When it works, it works well, and can even make the process of purchasing lower value items easier, negating the need for individual expense reports for very small items (this of course brings a huge time saving for our finance teams).
SAP Ariba's key strengths 1. Strong workflow-driven control and scalability - clear approvals and repeatability 2. Well-enabled processes within the system 3. Drives consistent execution and compliance across procurement and financial technology landscape
Despite the benefits, there are still opportunities for improvement in the end-user experience, especially in tracking the status of negotiations and requests. The system could offer clearer notifications, automatic alerts, and visual indicators that help the user quickly understand at what stage the process is. This point is more noticeable for occasional users who are not always familiar with the complete Ariba workflow and rely on more intuitive guidance from the tool.
The UI is not polished, and the steps from search to purchase to billing seem convoluted. Despite the best efforts of our internal teams to train all staff, infrequent users feel like a training refresh is needed each time they use as the tool isn't intuitive.
Major issues of the product are 1. Limited capacity to customize based on business requirements 2. UI/UX is outdated and difficult to navigate. Not an intuitive design, requires extensive training. 3. Limited features are available on portable applications (mobile/tablet). Restricts action on the go.
