Avolution concentrates on crafting the ABACUS toolset, a comprehensive solution that aids in managing an array of domains such as enterprise architecture, IT, business strategy, and digital transformation. ABACUS offers a platform for data importation and enables the setup of customized metamodels. It includes analytic tools to facilitate strategy analysis, devise future strategies, and build roadmaps. The toolset also offers reporting capabilities and an assortment of visual representations including charts and diagrams. ABACUS showcases standard industry frameworks, analytic tools, roadmapping, and reporting functionalities. It proficiently serves several operational areas like Business Process Management, Customer Experience, Solution Architecture, IT Service Management, and Business Intelligence. The ABACUS toolset can be utilized both on-premise or as a cloud-based application. Avolution has operations in America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

The standout strength of ABACUS is its flexibility. The ability for architects to work in local files and control when changes are committed to the central repository supports effective governance while enabling experimentation and development. The option to create multiple architecture files, eithr locally or within the collaboration environment, also helps separate domains, manage complexity and support testing activities. The hybrid deployment model offers significant operational flexibility. we use the cloud-hosted collaboration environment to support sharing and collaboration across the architecture team, while retaining the option to run studio application locally. This allows architects to work offline when required, run multiple modelling sessions and choose the approach that best suits the task at hand.
The reporting is solid, enables us to pull together documentation that makes sense to senior leaders when putting forward pre-business case explorations or full business cases requiring sign off.
Product strengths is flexible metamodel configurability, repository and traceability, dashboards. Service is second to none, absolutely excellent.
ABACUS is a highly capable and configurable platform, but some advanced capabilities can require significant effort to implement and administer. Integration is one area where additional out-of-the-box support would be beneficial. While the API framework is powerful, building and maintaining integrations can be time consuming, and there are limited accelerator templates, monitoring capabilities or error handling features to simplify ongoing support when external interfaces change or become unavailable. The permissions model provides a high degree of control but can be complex to understand and configure, particularly for organisations implementing more sophisticated governance requirements. Similarly, the Diff/Sync capability (used to compare and align different architectures) is conceptually very powerful, but the presentation of differences, synchronisation results and recovery options could be made more intuitive to improve confidence and adoption. Finally, some advanced features such as 'Element Selection' (used to create/manipulate diragramming content) offer exceptional flexibility but have a steep learning curve. Achieving the desire results can sometimes require trial and error or a specialist guidance. More guided workflows, wizards or AI-assisted configuration would help make these capabilities more accessible to a wider range of users. It is encouraging to hear that Avolution are investing in product modernisation and AI capabilities, which may help address some of these challenges in future releases.
its competing in a crowded market, lots of tools can now do similar tasks, and handle complex intergration and real time data analysis slightly easier/simpler. the interface can feel a little dated compared to similar products / tools
User interface can be slow and clunky, especially when its synching. Complex models at scale can suffer when pulling in CMDB asset classes its a double edged sword in that the flexible meta model requires advanced skills and we typically use 2 people to do the heavy lifting in studio rather than share out to the wider community (otherwise models can break and exec level dashboards can go wrong) so the wider architects community uses Enterprise for using established models .
