About Company
Company Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS), established in 2006, is focused on providing essential infrastructure services to businesses globally in the form of cloud computing. The key advantage offered through cloud computing, particularly via AWS, is its capacity to shift fixed infrastructure expenses into flexible costs. Businesses have been able to forgo extensive planning and procurement of servers and other Information Technology (IT) resources, owing to AWS. AWS seeks to provide businesses with prompt and cost-effective access to resources using Amazon's expertise and economies of scale, as and when their business requires. Currently, AWS offers a robust, scalable, economic infrastructure platform on the cloud powering an extensive array of businesses worldwide. It operates across numerous industries with data center locations in various parts of the globe including U.S., Europe, Singapore, and Japan.

Performance of AWS Storage Gateway Across Market Features
AWS Storage Gateway Likes & Dislikes
1- Native integration with SAP workflows: File Gateway exports presented as NFS/SMB shares meant our SAP jobs and MES systems could continue writing data without code changes. The write-back cache was especially helpful for batch processes that spiked during shift changes. 2- Policy-driven tiering and encryption: Lifecycle rules automatically transition cold sensor and quality-control logs to S3 Glacier Deep Archive, while KMS-managed encryption keys (SSE-KMS) ensure all data is compliant with our corporate security policies without manual key rotation. 3- Tape Gateway replacing VTLs: The Virtual Tape Library (VTL) integration with existing backup software (in our case, Veeam) reduced backup windows by 30% and eliminated tape handling. Restores from S3 Glacier were tested and completed well within our RTO targets.
It is an extremely affordable and scalable way to introduce cloud based backup and storage to your environment.
I like that the storage gateway appliance can not only be deployed on AWS, but even on Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware, thereby enabling organisations with hybrid infrastructure to avail its benefits. I also love that S3 storage, which is an object store by default, can easily be converted or shared as file storage for end users using AWS storage gateway, thus avoiding on-boarding all the users to AWS. The requirement of multi-part upload for file sizes beyond 5GB is also overcome by Storage Gateway as it by default takes care of it without offloading the need to do it on end users.
1- Bandwidth throttling limitations: Although you can configure bandwidth controls, there is no per-share QoS mechanism, which means one large SAP export can sometimes saturate the link and delay smaller shop floor jobs. 2- Limited high availability (HA) options: The gateway VM or hardware appliance can be clustered at the hypervisor level, but AWS does not provide a native multi-AZ HA deployment model. Failover required manual intervention during our DR drills. 3- Monitoring and logging gaps: CloudWatch and CloudTrail cover the basics, but for SAP integration we needed custom CloudWatch dashboards and Lambda functions to correlate job failures with storage Gateway I/O metrics. That extra glue code added overhead.
N/A
One of the things that I don't like or something that can be worked upon by AWS is removing the instance size restriction of m5.xlarge or above required for the Storage Gateway appliance. For someone who just needs to deploy a single file share from it, it turns out to be expensive for them. The sync or cache interval which is the time gap between something being uploaded to an AWS S3 bucket to then be visible in the corresponding file share offered is 5mins minimum, which can sometimes be a hindrance when you need something to be reflected instantaneously. Thus flexibility of reducing it to 1 min should be offered. Another limitation of the storage gateway file share is that it does not allow creating a file share which starts with an S3 prefix/path that is already configured for an existing file share but there is a difference in the sub-folder path/name.

A Reliable Hybrid Storage Backbone for SAP and Manufacturing Workloads-Plan Cache, Network and Monitoring Early.
Our manufacturing environment produces terabytes of structured and unstructured data every month- everything from SAP transactional data to loT sensor logs from our shop floor systems. AWS Storage Gateway has given us a practical way to extend our on-prem storage into the cloud without re-architecting critical production workloads. We primarily use File Gateway with NFS for shop floor data capture and SMB for quality reports that integrate directly with SAP batch jobs. To ensure compliance, we have deployed the Tape Gateway in VTL mode, which has allowed us to decommission physical tape libraries while still satisfying auditors who expect tape-based workflows. Overall, Storage Gateway has become the backbone of our hybrid storage strategy, letting us retrain low-latency access onsite while tiering the bulk of historical data to Amazon S3 Standard-IA and Glacier Deep Archive. - ENGINEER50M-1B USDSoftwareReview Source
AWS Storage Gateway Integrates With S3 and Hybrid Platforms Seamlessly Over Time
I have been using AWS storage gateway for the past 5 years now, and the way it seamlessly integrates with AWS S3 service is exceptional. AWS storage gateway has helped me and the organization solve quite a few business problems related to quick and flexible data and storage access - AI Developer<50M USDIT ServicesReview Source
High User Base Supports Quick Issue Resolution but Learning Curve Remains
The overall experience was great. It is reliable and I find it more trustworthy. I have also had good experience with the tutorials available for this and working on this has been much easier than others since there are a lot of people using it and offering tutorials and doubts. - SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER50M-1B USDSoftwareReview Source
Initial Setup Complexity and Pricing Challenges Impact Storage Gateway Performance
It is a pretty good tool for supporting on-premises systems with cloud storage, due to the high reliability of information versioning, this provides an amazing support for information recovery. Moreover, glacier and s3 integration provides optimal integration of AWS infrastructure, however, the initial setup to create the optimal tuning performance needs a lot of work. - SOFTWARE ARCHITECT50M-1B USDTransportationReview Source
AWS Storage Volume Gateway Simplifies Disaster Recovery Compliance for On-Premise Systems
Our on-premise system, which we have developed, integrated and is currently in operation, collects a large quantity of data. The data is organized in several tiers, where the most recent data is accessed frequently, while older data is accessed very sporadically. To be compliant with business and disaster recovery requirements, we cannot keep this data just on one site because in case of disaster recovery, an instance of the system needs to be available at another site. Instead of developing our own solution, we use AWS Storage Volume Gateway in stored mode. It provides the necessary glue between the on-premise infrastructure on which the system runs, and the cloud storage where data is asynchronously synchronized to.
