Overall, Azure Virtual Desktop is extremely easy to access through the Remote Desktop application. Sometimes it is a bit buggy and access doesn't always work. We use Azure Virtual Desktops to host our servers and they run very well. It is also easy to fix any issues or updates that may occur and we get an alert immediately. The Microsoft team is mostly easy to work with if there is a problem.

What Your Peers Are Saying About Azure Virtual Desktop

Director of IT
I wanted to reach out to all those who might have migrated to Microsoft's Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) as a DaaS solution. We've been testing this while working remotely (off network) and it appears to be working fine. However, when we test the platform in the office we run into all sorts of issues like background images in Teams not working, etc. We connect to AVD in the office using a ThinClient (Dell WYSE Terminal). Anyone using AVD from the office and if so, are you using a specific brand of ThinClient that works for you?
Director of IT
We have been using AVD as well as Windows 365 (Cloud PC) for a couple of years now. We are primarily using it for contractors who aren't eligible to receive a company laptop, but is also extensively being used for remote IT folks. We aren't using thin clients to connect to either AVD or CloudPC, instead the "Windows" app on PC and Mac. The Windows app fully supports media optimization which leverages WebRTC for multimedia content in the browser as well as audio/video in Teams. Teams video works flawlessly with within AVD and Cloud PC with very low latency and features like background images or background blur. It is possible that the WYSE terminals in use either don't support media optimization/redirection or aren't configured for support of the same.

Cloud PC - Windows 365 - What all adoption uses cases are beneficial vis-a-vis Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD/WVD)?
CISO
Cloud PCs (Windows 365) are great for simplicity and streamlined management. They’re perfect for organizations wanting an easy-to-deploy desktop experience without extensive IT overhead. They integrate well with Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) and are ideal for remote or hybrid workforces needing consistent desktop experience. They have fixed licensing prices and can be deployed on a Microsoft-managed network, keeping the SaaS solution if that level of security and responsibility are desired. Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) excels in customization and flexibility, making it suitable for larger enterprises or those needing multi-session capabilities and application virtualization. It’s great for dynamic workloads due to its consumption-based pricing and offers deeper control over the environment, which is ideal for IT teams needing advanced configuration. With AVD, you’ll need the infrastructure, meaning your organization would bear the added responsibility of IaaS and extra security.
