I like how I can use the existing VMware load in Azure without needing to rewrite the whole app as I am kind of familiar with vSphere and vSAN. It offers fully managed services which allows me to only focus on the workload and the rest it handles itself.
Once configured, moving applications from the on-premises to the cloud is very easy and allows for faster scalability and less maintenance of servers. The interface is basically the same, which is a plus for convenience. Compliance certifications provide confidence in hosting the solutions on the cloud. When we move machines to the cloud we get more resources on our on-premises machines.
The ability to run VMWare workloads natively on Azure without refactoring applications is the biggest advantage. It preserves our existing investments in VMWare while giving us access to Azure services for backup, monitoring and disaster recovery.
I noticed while tuning it still needs VMware expertise and the initial setup does require proper planning.
It's expensive (consumption based pricing). Requires complex firewall and vpn setups for our use cases. Slower connections than on premises, but it's understandable and relatively fast for being a cloud service.
Costs can climb quickly if you don't monitor usage closely. Also, as a regular business user (not a deep technical engineer), I found the networking side and setup to be a bit complex.
