Blue Yonder Warehouse Management Likes & Dislikes
3 main components of the system can serve warehouse operations well when properly implemented: 1. Directed Work - this can save a ton of time on operations like ours, where work is largely manually organized. This is like an intermediary step between legacy warehouse operations and contemporary automation approaches. This makes the sequence of work context aware of the necessary inventory movement and outstanding work to be completed. 2. RF and Web Interfaces - we are moving from a locally hosted system with a thick client on end user machines or needing a remote access server with clients running on handhelds. This is a very volatile implementation, and BY's web interface and android APK are MUCH more scalable. 3. Configurability - although this is one we're still learning more about every day, the configurability within the BY WMS product is incredibly flexible. We definitely can see several operations using this product even in spite of being entirely different lines of business
Easy to integrate with ordering systems and other downstream systems such as transportation and trade management or legacy systems. Runs on a monolithic architecture which makes it flexible
The product provides outstanding flexibility to adjust the warehouse system to the customer needs. The following capabilities are significant differentiators compared to other WMS solution: - Efficient use of hardware on the servers. Even high volume sites are running on comparatively small (4 CPU) systems. - Coding for customers is open using proprietary technology (MOCA) and enterprise class coding via Java. KN used this to create a distributed in house delivery organization that is able to act locally. Onboarding of graduates for development purposes is quick (< 3 months). - Complete set of configuration capabilities to implement processes for all vertical industries (Healtcare, e-Com, high tech, cross docking etc.)
1. Support teams are often overwhelmed and do not have access to reference documentation filled out during implementation 2. The SaaS model has not matured enough to work well with client developed code. This isn't really something I dislike about the product but more their service, and Blue Yonder has worked with us to continuously develop their processes. These are both things that Blue Yonder have closely partnered with us to address and we're working closely to help mature this service together.
We do not have many options to customize the Pick, pack, and ship reporting option we have to customize it outside of the BY.
The on-prem product has been pretty static the last few years due to the investment in Blue Yonder to rework the whole solution into a cloud-based platform. The professional services organization within BY went through a major shake up prior the Panasonic acquisition which caused disruption of services.

Insights into BY's Warehouse Management System Implementation
Specifically in both of our warehouse launches, BY has shown great partnership throughout the hypercare period. They were on site alongside us, working through operational challenges, educating users, and being creative with workarounds to unforeseen issues. There are always challenges with any production launch, but several of the team were not at all hesitant to question decisions, reevaluate configurations, and jump in to help. - VP, Software Development10B+ USDTransportationReview Source

We use BlueYonder for our three main sites across the United States and so far it has been a very welcoming experience.
