What Cohesity offers us in terms of functionality and effort saved really can't be put into words. It's like comparing our old Fiat to a Ferrari. We've been so impressed with the functionality of the system and how many things we're able to do. One aspect of the product that isn't even related to backups is the ability to create 'Views' which have allowed us to replace NFS file shares hosted on MS clusters. This has not only been a way for us to get off of outdated hardware but has allowed us a more secure and speedier system for our fileshares. UPDATE 8/18/2025: Cohesity just works. The product does exactly what it's advertised to do. Gone are the headaches of old.
The web GUI is modern. Now, the system behind the scenes is lagging behind. It's a regular Linux without a required hardening enforcement.
The solution is fast and automatically mounts a copy of the VM with NFS to get your machine up as quickly as possible. A 3TB VM can be up and running in 5 minutes compared to a day with unhydrated backups via other solutions. Service is a big plus and the product feedback team actually implements suggested features and fixes.
Thus far the system has been very impressive. The one downfall that we've seen so far is there have been quite a few releases in the software/firmware that have been buggy. We've had to open multiple cases with Support in order to get those resolved, but their support staff has always been incredible. UPDATE 11/30/2021: The Marketplace apps continue to be underwhelming. Things like their audit trace (Spotlight) simply haven't been reliable or functional for our environment, even after upgrading to an all-flash cluster. That said, Cohesity is aware and continues to work with us to address those issues and are doing everything they can to stabilize it for us.
Insecure and inaccurate for a segregated environment. MTU is badly managed. If a firewall is present in path, solution is struggling.
The software is still much newer than legacy backup solutions and less polished, but the company takes suggestions to heart and implements improvements quickly. It's easily forgivable as the capabilities far exceed legacy backup solutions. Over the last 5 years we have seen many new features added.

The Ferrari of Backup Systems
Cohesity has been a true time saver for our organization. After the initial setup of the application, creating new backup jobs takes minutes (compared to an hour+ in our previous system). The GUI is simple to use and intuitive. On top of everything else this product offers, their support network has been incredible. We've had a few bugs in releases and other issues and their support staff has always been constant with their communications and provided solutions in a timely manner. UPDATE 1-14-2021: Our organization suffered a critical ransomware attack, effectively crippling our entire infrastructure (some 600+ servers and 2500 PCs). Cohesity has literally saved us hundreds of hours of work and I'd say it prevented us from having to actually pay the ransom note. We have been recovering systems and file shares from known good backups without any real issues. We found a few problems with how we had configured some of our backup jobs (not a Cohesity issue, but something we did) but that's been a good learning opportunity for us as well. Our old backup solution would have not only been unsuccessful but would have forced us to rebuild a majority of our systems. With Cohesity, we've been able to recover machines and file shares, verify they're clean, and bring the applications back online. We still have a ways to go as we prioritize what comes up first, but it's been a very successful journey so far. Frankly, we all still have jobs and a functional hospital because we have had so much success with Cohesity. UPDATE: 8/18/2025: Cohesity continues to outperform other products in so many critical ways. Their innovative strategy pushes them ahead of their competition. - DIRECTORGov't/PS/EdEducationReview Source
Great technology that will lower your backup costs assuming you are sized large enough.
The trial period was great; we were able to leverage the virtual edition to fully test features before bringing the actual hardware onsite for a POC. The solution has worked well and has outclassed our previous setup in both ease of use as well as efficiency and speed. *UPDATE* In this update I would like to share my experience with hardware support from Cohesity, as our units have now been in service for over 5 years. I received a notification from the system that the expected lifespan of one of the solid state drives was now down to 20%. Cohesity proactively replaced every one of our nodes, one at a time, so there was zero downtime to our backup cluster. This was unexpected and very welcome. They do stand behind their hardware as well as their software. I'm updating my rating of service and support to 5 stars because of this. *UPDATE 2* As a further update we have now retired our original cluster and installed a new cluster. The new cluster increased network speed, node count, and capacity. I think this is the highest compliment a review can give - we liked the solution enough to vote with our wallet a second time. *UPDATE 3* We continue to have great success with our cluster. Support has been helpful when we need them. I'm looking forward to future enhancements concerning additional hypervisors. - IT Manager1B-10B USDManufacturingReview Source
Cohesity Expands Features and Partnerships But Licensing Remains Challenging
Everything just works and works great. The licensing would be the only small negative. - STORAGE AND BACKUP ADMINISTRATOR1B-10B USDManufacturingReview Source
