Dispel focuses on secure remote access for ICS, OT, IIoT, and cyber-physical systems. The Dispel Zero Trust Engine platform delivers OT secure remote access, industrial data streaming, and integrated threat monitoring—giving organizations complete control and full visibility, standardizing access across legacy systems, modern IIoT, and distributed ICS/OT environments. Designed on Zero Trust principles of "never trust, always verify" and powered by Dispel’s Moving Target Defense (MTD) and composable SD-WAN architecture, the Dispel Engine offers a Tiered Connection Suite—Clientless Browser Connect, Virtual Desktop, and Local Application options—and enables secure access to OT systems in under 30 seconds. Purpose-built to meet strict OT cybersecurity requirements, with SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and IEC 62443 certifications. Organizations inherit robust security controls out of the box—streamlining compliance with frameworks such as NIS2, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-82, and NERC CIP.

The ability to easily onboard members is very handy. It has been very quick to setup new users, even if they are not familiar with tech. Virtual desktop reservations are quick and easy. This allows for users to very quickly get into our OT environment. Previously, it would be a gamble whether we could connect at all, now we know that we have a guaranteed connection! All around, the Dispel platform is extremely intuitive. My team utilizes many different tools and services to manage our OT security. None of them are as easy to navigate as the Dispel platform.
1. robust zero trust security 2. seamless integration with existing OT/ICS systems 3. fast, reliable remote access with minimal to no latency
The use of MFA, fulfilling our cybersecurity requirements for remote access. A management dashboard that makes it easy to manage users, devices, and access windows for multiple facilities, providing granularity for user/device access. The ability to use a VPN option for remote access, as well as a VDI option that we can use for external vendors. VDI sessions are recorded, fulfilling compliance requirements for remote access. In addition to remote access, Dispel has the ability to configure any protocol for a connected user (https, ssh, sftp, etc..), making the product very versatile. Technical support for implementation and working through issues has been truly exceptional. They have a great team with vast knowledge of networking and application development.
One challenge that we originally faced was setting up the virtual desktops. OT equipment utilizes sometimes antiquated software that can be challenging to setup on newer VMs. The biggest obstacle with Dispel is user adoption. In an industry where engineers have been utilizing the same processes as they were 20 years ago, it is difficult to transition them to a new technology. However, thanks to Dispels intuitive platform, this has been very smooth. While it is very nice that the platform is very intuitive, there are certain areas where I wish that administrators had more control.
1. inital setup might be complex. 2. advanced configuration options lack in-depth documentation 3. pricing could be high
There could be better notification capabilities when there are connection issues. However, they did setup email notifications for this for us. It would be best for this to be an out of the box feature. There could be better deployment and update options for environments that don't allow administrator access to end users. This is something that our internal team and Dispel have worked on and achieved some success but still needs improvement. Access windows cannot be extended; they have to be recreated.
