“Enhanced Experience, Scalability, Security, and Upgraded Tools with Banner SaaS”

We were one of the first schools to transition from an on-prem Banner Student system user to the new Banner SaaS Student platform. ERP transitions are neither smooth nor often pleasant experiences. Filled with details and stress, they aren't attempted often and are rarely successful. Our transition, despite being one of the first, was an incredibly smooth one. When making such an impactful decision, you have to have confidence in the partner you are working with. Ellucian did an excellent job with the implementation - they pushed us and listed when we pushed back. They learned from us and we learned from them. It was the definition of a true partnership. Now that we are in SaaS, it has been a great experience. We have been able to provide upgraded services to our community, including more frequent upgrades, additional security, and increased registration band size. Ellucian Experience has been a substantial upgrade over past user interfaces and allows us to customize the experience for our community by persona type. We are also able to solve problems and meet stakeholder needs faster on the Banner SaaS Student platform. One recent example has been our ability to use Ellucian Intelligent Processing (EIP) to quickly build workflows to replace academic workflows built upon a platform that unexpectedly stopped working. Overall, the Banner SaaS Student platform has echoes of the same reliable, education focused product we have used for years, all while having a vastly improved UX/UI experience combined with new tools and systems that allow us to work faster and address community needs quicker.

“Elevate Suited for Continuing Education but Failed on Financial Management Integration”

Ellucian Elevate is not fully integrated with Ellucian Colleague SIS. Conflicts in scheduling occurred between Elevate and Colleague. The absolute worst part was tracking the financial transactions and manually importing them into Colleague. Audit reports were a nightmare. After several years, we abandoned the product and went back to Instant Enrollment.

    Benefits of Ellucian's Banner Student

    The system is owned and operated by Ellucian, but global administrators have impacted how the product has developed over time. It hits all of our needs as the platform's configuration is extremely relevant to our operations. Student activity flows seamlessly into the finance and accounting functions and also helps us keep track of all core student metrics.

Performance of Ellucian Student Across Market Features

The three biggest impacts we have seen from our transition to the Banner SaaS Student platform are: (1) Improved User Experience - The platform is mobile responsive allowing our community to use access it anytime on any device from any location. The platform meets our users where they are at and empowers them with tools - like the all encompassing search bar feature - to do what they need to do quickly and effortlessly. (2) Democratization of Development - The Banner SaaS Student platform is a no / low-code solution that allows for development on the platform outside of our traditional student information system team housed in central IT. It allows for our registrars' offices and even our academic deans' offices to set up workflows and build upon the platform in a way that was not possible with an on-prem, code-based product. (3) Safe and Scalable - Ellucian is able to provide tighter and more comprehensive security than our staff and team could. Updates are pushed out more frequently, increasing the security of the platform. We are also able to scale as needed around peak usage - like registration - something we were unable to do on-prem. This has allowed us to increase our registration band size which was a major win for our academic stakeholders. Finally, we were able to achieve these improvements while also decreasing the number of FTEs maintaining the system and re-purposing them toward other university priorities.

The product is better suited for Continuing Education registration and made it easier for students then Instant Enrollment.

Ellucian knows higher education. They are taking the Higher Education Reference model and mapping their capabilities to the system and allowing institutions to build to those capabilities as needed for their institution. I appreciate the innovation I am seeing in the product roadmap. They are truly listening to customers for feedback

One area of the product that is being actively improved is the Insights data transport and reporting system. It has an aggressive roadmap and the attention of senior Ellucian leadreship.

The product integration was incomplete. Keeping track of financials was a secondary thought.

Ellucian is still adding out of the box capabilities and API's, so as early adopters of SaaS, some functionality we want will be coming, however we will get to push for the right functionality. I'm just starting to see more innovation in the HR product roadmap especially for larger schools.
