erwin is the industry standard for enterprise data modeling, especially in legacy environments. It is powerful, precise, and deeply technical, but the UI and UX have not aged well. It shines for DBAs, but not for casual users.

Reverse and forward engineering capabilities are robust. You can visualize complex relational structures, manage metadata, enforce standards, and generate DDL across multiple platforms. Lineage tracking and model validation are top notch.

It it flexible and comprehensive enough to get the job done

Features to create super and subtypes of entities; easily add metadata such as data types, definitions, keys, etc.,

The interface is clunky and slow. Collaboration is weak without extra tools. Licensing is very expensive, and cloud integration is limited. It feels like a desktop relic in a modern world.

Falls a long way short of modern cloud based drawing tools - feel like it hasn't been invested in

Connecting to cloud databases like Salesforce.

We've been using this product for more than 5 years since it was still with the original company. We've seen the evolution of the product and it's getting better every release. It's flexible / configurable and we've used it for more than its intended purpose. The lineage and impact analysis functionality is what we like most of the product. If you use all the functionality of the Suite, then you can make use of the ecosystem starting from business glossary where you can show the 'mind map' then expand to show the metadata then the codesets then the lineage and mapping rules.
