Performance of ExtremeSwitching Across Market Features
ExtremeSwitching Likes & Dislikes
Extreme Fabric technology provides simplified infrastructure configuration, stability and superior resilience. Excellent technology and a dedicated workforce ensure reliable support service. The ability to switch the Universal switch's operating system between EXOS and VOSS allows for flexible response to changing business markets.
They may not have the name recognition as some of the bigger players, but they are as good, if not better, than switches offered by some of the bigger players at a fraction of the price. I really like that you can manage the devices locally via CLI, via ExtremeCloud IQ, or both as it gives you the best of both worlds, unlike pretty much every other vendor where if you transition the device to centralized management then you lose local control.
The fabric is easy enough to setup and the reduction in configuration steps saves a lot of time.
Low market awareness. Lack of chassis-based equipment Lack of promotion in the APAC market
Due to acquisitions over the years you'll have to choose from four or five different OSes and command line syntaxes depending on the type of switch chosen for the deployment. There has been plenty of time to consolidate on a single OS platform, but they have chosen not to do so. EXOS is their flagship OS as it is what they developed from the inception of Extreme. While it's a fine platform it takes significantly longer to configure an EXOS switch compared to other vendors. I also dislike the fact that they have been trying to integrate EXOS based switches into ExtemeCloud IQ for a few years and they have only a tiny subset of features available. The rest of the configuration has to happen manually. They also do not have a way to convert a brownfield deployment of locally configured EXOS switches to ExtremeCloud IQ management.
It would be good to allow temp licensing again. Sometimes getting these renewals through the purchasing process ends up taking longer than we hope.

Innovative Fabric Technology Highlighted Amidst Lack of Chassis-Based Equipment Options
Extreme Networks has a strong industry reputation. It also leads the way in innovative network technology and provides convenient operations from a user perspective. - Network EngineerGov't/PS/EdGovernmentReview Source
Improved Web Experience and Temporary Licensing Needed for Switching Solutions
I would think the biggest area of improvement for the switching would be to recreate the same web experience as is on VOSS and the older BOSS. Troubleshooting is sometimes a ton easier with a decent gui. Also, it would be great if Extreme would also allow temp licensing again. Sometimes trying to get renewals through purchasing can take a lot of time. - Network Administrator<50M USDIT ServicesReview Source
