What is Figma Design?

Figma Design is a software focused on interface design and prototyping, supporting collaborative workflows for teams working on digital products. The software facilitates real-time editing, vector design, prototyping, and commenting within a single environment, aimed at streamlining the product design process. Figma Design offers features such as component libraries, design versioning, and developer handoff tools, allowing for consistent visual language and efficient iteration. The software runs in a web browser, which enables designers, developers, and stakeholders to access and contribute to projects from various locations. Figma Design addresses challenges related to distributed collaboration, design consistency, and the need for rapid prototyping, supporting organizations in managing and delivering digital interfaces efficiently.

“Figma Offers Strong Prototyping And Collaboration But Has Free Version Limits”

4.0
Dec 31, 2025
Being a designer and UI specialist, I have been using Figma for ages now, and this software really didn't disappoint me at all. Starting with how user-friendly it is - easy to navigate, finding your tools and incorporating plug-ins. One good YouTube video or online course and you're already a pro at using the tool. Secondly, the best part is its usability. You don't necessarily need to download the app, you can easily use it online and the ease of using it on any device- be it phone, tablet or laptop. Plus the ability to access your data anywhere in the world with merely your ID and password. It has good collaborative features, and don't get me started on the extensive plugins it has to offer-plus you can even add more. Prototyping, creating button animations or making a fun interactive interface, it can do it all. You can start with a lo-fi wireframe to your hi-fi wireframes to a fully fledged working interface, it really does it all. However, despite being a great tool, it does have some limitations as well. One major thing is that a free account allows only one free project, which can contain only 3 files, plus only two people can collaborate with limited features. This doesn't allow the user to take full advantage of the software and get to know it better- and hence is forced to buy as one doesn't get complete essence of the tool. Besides this, it doesn't work well with large or heavy files- it goes crazy and starts lagging a lot so if you're working on a heavy data project be ready to feel annoyed a bit. But all in all it does a pretty good job and one can give it a try.

Figma Design Likes & Dislikes

Like

My top 3 highlights for Figma design are: 1. Prototyping- It offers a good variety of fun animations and transitions for prototyping, which gives a good essence to the client of how their end product will look like, how the website/app will be moving and the overall flow of the tool 2. Collaboration features - UI/UX is a domain where you simply can't work alone, you work as a team. This collaboration feature is a blessing as the whole team can be on the same page, see the updates in real-time and can even make changes or add their inputs as well. 3. AI Integration - This feature is new, but it's growing on me. Figma is leveraging the use of AI in their tool, which helps with brainstorming sessions and much more research related work. However, since AI is a new feature, maybe we need more in-depth understanding of this.

Like

Requires no download or setup of a desktop app because it's primarily browser-based. This makes sharing prototypes with stakeholders dead simple - just click the link. The default communications settings are appropriate - sharing the file, getting notifications when tagged, and so on are intuitive right out of the box. Collaboration by commenting directly on the design element is easy and makes getting your point across with less context possible. This is particularly important when presenting designs in a meeting or collecting lots of feedback, like during a critique.

Like

The general layout of the functionality itself. The way you can save and organise projects is very useful. The collaboration with other teams and being able to work on projects at the same time and communicate is fantastic. Not to mention the new tools Figma has recently rolled out such as Site, Buzz and FigJam which are all absolutely brilliant and allow us to not only prototype, but deliver a seamless experience to our stakeholders. The flexibility of the plugins is also a welcomed addition and really helps achieve things much faster than it previously took.

Dislike

Firstly, not a huge fan of the free version - as the provided features are very limited like only 2 people can collaborate and only 1 project is allowed and to get a better hold of the tool one is kind of forced to get the paid version so a few more features can help the user to understand the tool and decide their vendor accordingly. Secondly, Figma design needs good stable internet connection- so a good feature is also a problem that though you can access it anywhere but with an internet connection which unfortunately you don't find everywhere. And lastly it goes crazy once your file becomes heavy it doesn't do well with large data and it starts lagging

Dislike

Since the product is browser based, it can have issues with load times and performance, especially with more complex mocks. As far as I know, there is also no offline functionality, which can hinder productivity for folks who are on-the-go or experiencing wifi outages. The navigation in a complex file structure can be tricky. While there is a tabulated outline in a side panel, clicking on each linked tab can drop you into a giant frame, rather than deeplink you to a specific point within that frame. You may have to wander around a bit to find the design you need.

Dislike

Sometimes I create a new Figma file just to make some quick changes or review something. I don't necessarily want to save it but it goes straight into my drafts. This makes it clutter pretty quickly sometimes. Especially if I'm just downloading Figma files online to review.

Direct Commenting Enhances Teamwork Yet Large Files Impact Speed and Usability

    4.0

Figma has been vital because of one product advantage - it allows collaboration, comments, and file markups on prototypes with ease. It's like the GoogleDocs of prototyping tools. No more back and forth over email or external files while referencing the design in another tab. You can drop a comment directly on the element in question on Figma to start a discussion around it.

As an original user of another application, which was industry leading at the time, Figma has absolutely me away since we transitioned to it. The development of the Figma application has been second to none. It's usability, functionality and range of different tools have been absolutely fantastic for myself and my UX team.

Any choice other than Figma Design is the wrong choice

In my decade+ in product management, I've used a handful of different UI/UX design tools. Figma Design is truly MANY steps above the rest. I have no intention of ever switching platforms again, and I'm confident Figma will continue innovating on an already best-in-class platform.

Figma Enables Team Collaboration but Presents Governance Challenges at Enterprise Scale

    4.0
    Dec 15, 2025
We use Figma as the core design platform across marketing, brand, product web, advertising and also for our customers. At an enterprise scale, it has become less of a design tool and more of a shared operating system for how teams think, collaborate and ship work. Real-time collab, versioning and shared ownership have removed A LOT of friction that used to slow down our teams. It has worked consistently well across distributed teams and complex projects. The main challenges show up once governance, permissions and scale become more complex.
