Hexnode Review: Windows Automation and Policy Management Windows Automation and Scripting Flexibility Hexnode allows us to push scripts and software efficiently to Windows endpoints. We developed a productionready deployment flow for our DNS filtering agent that functions seamlessly across all CPU architectures and launches automatically without triggering UAC prompts. Granular Policy Control The policy model, once understood, offers significant flexibility. With its combination of targets, exclusions, and block/allow logic, we can implement complex scenarios such as perapplication allow/block lists and precise policy exclusions for certain devices or users. Support and Technical Engagement For complex issuesincluding API behaviours, security notifications, and portal functionalityHexnodes support team has demonstrated a strong willingness to engage deeply. They have escalated cases to engineering, upgraded our tenant to newer builds, and scheduled dedicated technical sessions, avoiding superficial responses. Overall, Hexnode provides robust automation, flexible policy management, and a responsive support experience for managing Windows environments.
It does all-in-one
Intuitive and fairly easy to set up for admins
Issues Encountered with Platform Usage Inconsistent Behaviour on Edge Cases Certain features did not operate as documented until backend changes or a portal upgrade were applied. Example: asset_tag and other fields were missing from the device details API despite being visible in the UI; the issue was only resolved after updating the portal build. Complexity in Troubleshooting Block/Allow Lists Blocklisting specific Windows applications, including certain browsers and Store apps, required multiple attempts. Manual log collection and precise handling of publisher names and app types were necessary before the blocklists worked as intended. Security and Audit Challenges An incident occurred where an API token appeared to be generated without user interaction. Investigating this required correlating Hexnode logs, UTCbased timestamps, and email notifications. Questions remained regarding notification coverage and portal responsiveness during the event.
Lacking some features. Used to using mac's. Now this is our primary driver for windows
Very slow UI sometimes. Some weird quirks that don't make sense (e.g. I can install apps from the Hexnode library on any device via actions, but not push those via policies). No templates for common setups e.g. force updates on Mac/Windows devices; install and maintain CrowdStrike or BitLocker; cannot import a mobileconfig/plist and have it merge with their assistant-created policy; cannot download the generated raw policy file for debugging purposes Also, dealing with sales for every seat bump is exasperating and they keep calling my mobile phone. Just send an invoice with a payment link, and stop bothering me!!
