Firstly its been great that we can have a centralized hub for all things cloud costing to be able to provide to our internal teams on how much things are costing as well as giving us the ability to forecast future usage and costs. Basically visibility and transparency has been brought to our internal teams, and also teams that are considering migrating to the cloud. Secondly I really like the fact that this tool is not tethered to any specific cloud provider but can actually be tied to multiple clouds to get a single pane view of all cloud costs. Lastly its ability to start to generate reporting and dashboards for trend analysis has helped us flush out items that we costing us when we really did not need it.
Right now, cost sharing, forecast and budget capabilities voa CFP
Clear multi-cloud visibility: having one place to see AWS, Azure and other providers Actionable optimization: rightsizing recommendations, idle resource detection and anomaly alerts Strong FinOps alignment: Features like budgets, forcasting anomaly detection
One thing that we are struggling with is with future cost predictions, this tool does not seem to take into consideration discounts, pricing or reserved instances so therefore the analysis is missing a few things. So our predictions are a bit skewed without taking these factors into consideration. Another area of improvement is to build in a bit more AI to provide more smarter recommendations on where to manage your costs. Also while basic charts and dashboards are great, we still need to rely on external reporting tools for more in depth reporting.
Our smart-ass engineers are using Anthropic LLMs to feed utilization data and have it generate optimization recommendations. They are literally crapping on Cloudability and making it look very deficient.
Steep learning curve at the start: the initial setup, especially getting tagging standards in place and defining allocation rules, took time Heavy dependence on good tagging: When tags are inconsistent or missing, the insights and showback models become much less reliable UI and performance quirks: Some parts of the interface are bit clunky
