“IBM Cloudability Provides Transparency and Actionable Insights for Cloud Cost Management”

4.0
Sep 18, 2025
My overall experience with IBM Cloudability has been positive. The onboarding process was relatively straightforward and easy, not proving to be overly complicated. From a value measurement perspective, the product's primary business goal revolves around financial optimization, which includes achieving reduced costs and enabling proactive measures to lower our overall cloud expenditures. The integration of this tool has significantly enhanced our workflow by providing much-needed transparency into our cloud consumption. This transparency, in turn, has allowed us to implement specific actions aimed at optimizing that consumption, such as the strategic purchase of savings plans from our various cloud vendors. The product demonstrates strong scalability with our business growth. While the solution scales effectively, a critical consideration that prospective customers must be aware of is the cost model. This model is typically based on the consumption monitored by the tool, meaning that significant growth in cloud consumption could potentially impact the overall cost of the tool itself. However, aside from this financial consideration, we have not needed to undertake any major upgrades, expansions, or significant modifications to the solution. Our decision to purchase this product was driven by several key factors. The top priorities included cost management and the goal of creating internal operational efficiencies. Beyond these, product functionality and performance, coupled with a robust roadmap and future vision from the vendor, were crucial determinants in our decision-making process. During the evaluation phase, we undertook a comprehensive process. This involved conducting an RFP (Request for Proposal) with several different vendors and engaging in a detailed assessment that spanned several weeks. A significant component of our evaluation was a Proof of Concept (POC), which allowed us to observe how the tool would integrate and function within our environment, evaluate the implementation effort required, and assess the platform's overall usability. Regarding internal adoption within our organization, we proactively established an overall practice supported by a dedicated team. This team's mission is to assist our internal customers in the adoption and successful utilization of the tool. This approach underscores our commitment to not merely rolling out technology but also providing the essential support structure necessary for widespread and effective adoption. The deployment architecture of IBM Cloud ability is cloud-based. Our internal team responsible for the deployment and ongoing management of this solution is geographically dispersed across Switzerland, and the United States.

The top three aspects that I most appreciate about IBM Cloud ability are: Multi-Cloud Capability: This is arguably the most critical feature for my organization. As a multi-cloud company, the ability to manage my cloud consumption seamlessly across various cloud vendors from a single platform is invaluable. This unified view simplifies management complexities significantly. I recognized that relying solely on cloud native tools would have introduced significant complexity, necessitating the use of multiple disparate solutions. Therefore, the possibility of having one single tool to manage different clouds was considered a big class (a significant big plus) for me during the selection phase. It effectively offers a pane of glass that provides clear insight into my consumption within various cloud environments. Ease of Use: The product is remarkably user-friendly, characterized by a low learning curve for adoption. This accessibility means that individuals who may not be tech savvy or is not a cloud specialist can still effectively use the tool, fostering broader internal engagement and adoption. From the initial stages, the onboarding process was found to be fairly easy and not especially complicated. This general simplicity and low barrier to entry have been instrumental in fostering broader internal engagement and adoption within my organization. Indeed, the overall adoption process was not especially problematic, indicating a smooth transition into regular use. Comprehensive Recommendations: The tool provides excellent overall recommendations for cloud optimization and enhancing cloud consumption efficiency. Specifically, it helps me get recommendations around savings plans or how can we improve the cloud consumption. These recommendations are not merely informational; they directly empower me to take certain actions to optimise that consumption. A concrete example of this is the strategic advice it provides to purchase savings plans from the cloud vendors to optimise the cloud consumption. These capabilities are fundamental to achieving my primary business goal of financial optimization, which includes achieving reduced cost and making actions that would reduce our overall cloud costs. The transparency it offers into my cloud consumption has been crucial, enabling proactive measures to manage and reduce expenditures

Firstly its been great that we can have a centralized hub for all things cloud costing to be able to provide to our internal teams on how much things are costing as well as giving us the ability to forecast future usage and costs. Basically visibility and transparency has been brought to our internal teams, and also teams that are considering migrating to the cloud. Secondly I really like the fact that this tool is not tethered to any specific cloud provider but can actually be tied to multiple clouds to get a single pane view of all cloud costs. Lastly its ability to start to generate reporting and dashboards for trend analysis has helped us flush out items that we costing us when we really did not need it.

Dislike

While the product is highly beneficial, there are areas where I believe improvements could be made: User Onboarding Complexity: Despite the general ease of use for day-to-day operations, the process of onboarding new users into the system can be somewhat cumbersome and requires a notable amount of effort. Streamlining this process would significantly enhance the user experience. Limited Cross-Cloud Recommendations: The tool effectively offers a pane of glass providing insight into what I am consuming within specific cloud environments. However, it currently does not provide strategic recommendations on when or how to switch between different cloud providers to potentially benefit from cost savings or performance improvements. Expanding this capability to include cross-cloud optimization advice would be highly valuable

Dislike

Our smart-ass engineers are using Anthropic LLMs to feed utilization data and have it generate optimization recommendations. They are literally crapping on Cloudability and making it look very deficient.

Dislike

One thing that we are struggling with is with future cost predictions, this tool does not seem to take into consideration discounts, pricing or reserved instances so therefore the analysis is missing a few things. So our predictions are a bit skewed without taking these factors into consideration. Another area of improvement is to build in a bit more AI to provide more smarter recommendations on where to manage your costs. Also while basic charts and dashboards are great, we still need to rely on external reporting tools for more in depth reporting.

Centralized Cost Management Tool Offers Improved Cloud Visibility But Limited Predictions

    4.0
    Jan 14, 2026
As my company has been moving into the cloud one of the biggest concerns we have had is cost. While all the different tools out there in the cloud are amazing and leaps and bounds most if not all things come with a price tag. Subsequently my organization needed a way to be able to manage cloud cost, how to optimize return on investment and also financial accountability in terms of visibility for our internal teams and spending control as well. This tool has helped bring to light dollar value to specific cloud tools we have implemented and the true cost.

Cloudability Enables Transparent Cross-Team Usage Tracking and Targeted Cost Reductions

    4.0
    Dec 29, 2025
IBM Cloudability has been a solid addition to our FinOps toolkit, especially for getting real contorl over multi-cloud spend and making engineering teams accountable for their usage. In our case, Cloudability finally gave us a single, turstworthy view of AWS and Azure costs that finance, platform and product teams could look at without arguing over whose spreadsheet was "more correct". It pulls in detailed cost and usage data, normalizes it, and lets us slice it by account, tag, application or business unit, which is exactly what we needed to run a proper FinOps practice instead of ad-hoc reporting. Before Cloudability, our mult-cloud setup had classic chaos, like non-production workloads running 24/7, idle instances left behind after POCs and no consistent way to show product teams what they were actually spending. Cloudability highlighted idle and underused resources and surfaced rightsizing and shutdown recommendations across our main cloud providers which translated into double-digit percentage savings in the first year without impacting performance.

IBM Cloudability Offers Detailed Spend Analytics But Interface Complexity Poses Challenges

    Sep 22, 2025
IBM Cloudability is being used to manage enterprise-wide multi-cloud environments where we require unified visibility. They have all the FinOps best cost governance practices plus want to move from reactive cost tracking to proactive optimization. It is a strong cloud cost management and optimization platform that helps us gain visibility into our multi-cloud spend and provides both high-level dashboards for executives and granular details for FinOps practitioners making it easier to align engineering, finance, and operations teams.
