FAVORABLE

“Jellyfish Enables Powerful, Data-Driven Management (Including AI Impact) but Its Power and Complexity Can Present Challenges”

5.0
Jan 6, 2026
Jellyfish is a powerful tool for consuming data from Jira, Github, Bitbucket, etc. and translating it into metrics that my dev teams and I can use to measure and manage productivity. They recently added a feature to measure "AI Impact" that has been very useful for us. We also use it to capture and track software capitalization for our Finance team. The toolset is complex, but Jellyfish provides a lot of support, training materials, etc. and are very responsive. We have a very active relationship with our account manager. We have been using Jellyfish for several years.

CRITICAL

“Initial focus on activity numbers undermined trust and leadership values”

3.0
Jun 10, 2026
When we first adopted Jellyfish, we unintentionally fell into an anti-patten of micromanagement driven by the metrics it surfaced. Instead of using the data to ask better questions and understand context, we started over-rotating on activity-level numbers and dashboards This shifted conversations away from performance management as "understanding the why and coaching people" and toward inspecting every fluctuation in a chart. As a result, trust eroded and we temporarily lost sight of what good engineering leadership looks like: judgement, context, and dialogue rather than surveillance. We've since course-corrected but it took deliberate effort to unwind those behaviours.

High-impact, ROI-centric, strategic platform that transforms engineering data into clear, actionable business value.

We've been using Jellyfish for more than three years now, and it has become a core part of how we run product and engineering operations. The platform gives us end-to-end visibility into deliverables, risks and resource allocation, which has significantly strengthened our planning discipline and operational reporting. Jellyfish has also meaningfully improved transparency across teams and functions, making conversations around prioritization and investment decisions far more data-driven. The platform's investment and tax reporting capabilities have been especially valuable, giving leadership a reliable, unified view of where our engineering efforts are going and how they map to strategic outcomes.

Comprehensive automation streamlines tracking but navigation can be overwhelming

Jellyfish is a great platform to use in order to track work and progress toward completion. I link it to Jira so that I can see a birds-eye view of all my team's work. It eliminates the need for manual time tracking by pulling data from Jira and other places like GitHub. It provides us with an understanding toward delivery forecasting, sprint performance. All you have to do is simply plug-and-play data from systems and you're good to go.

Jellyfish Finds Critical Signals for Engineering Analytics and Capacity Planning Needs

    5.0
    Dec 22, 2025
Jellyfish is able to find timely and actionable signals from our multi-product multi-pod engineering organization. It serves several purposes: agile health-check, software cost capitalization, capacity planning, investment allocation, developer experience (DevEx), delivery forecasting and costs. When evaluating Jellyfish and similar, we discovered that the value offered by Jellyfish for the feature-sets is immense and no other competitor has a holistic solution like Jellyfish's. The account and support team are always available to promptly answer my questions. We love Jellyfish's meetups and interviews with engineering leaders. Their written documentation and chat assistant are thorough, effective and easy to follow.

Performance of Jellyfish Platform Across Market Features

Jellyfish Platform Likes & Dislikes

Like

1. Good integrations make data collection easy and accurate - we use them to pull in data from code repos, AI tools (Github CoPilot, Cursor, Claude Code), and Jira. They have been responsive in adding integrations for new tools, and supporting our existing integrations. 2. Actionable dashboards and delegated access. We can look at individual and team metrics, as well as high-level rollups. We provide access to all levels of management to help track, diagnose, and coach teams using Jellyfish data. They provide views for team performance, investment categories (i.e. Roadmap, Tech Debt, Customer Requests, etc.), DevOps, FinOps, and more. 3. Useful for software capitalization for tax credits. We've given access to our Finance team to track & report on capitalizable software dev expense which helps with tax credits and investment metrics. 4. Active relationship between Jellyfish and my management team. We have regular calls with our account manager at Jellyfish. He helps guide us on best known methods for using their data, has training sessions with our entire engineering management team, guides us through new features, advocates for new features we request, and more.

Like

We do like the insights and granular level of detail that Jellyfish pulls that its native integrations (can't mention them here) could not. It connects issues, PR, and projects into a comprehensive drill down single view When used thoughtfully, this visibility can support better planning, more grounded trade-off decisions, and clearer explanations to execs about why certain things just take longer. The problem for us wasn't the data, it was how we were using it.

Like

Integrations: Native integrations with our tooling ecosystem allow us to surface insights without creating additional operational overhead. Operational Metrics: The clarity and structure Jellyfish brings to engineering and delivery metrics has elevated how we manage performance and track progress against strategic initiatives. Customer Support: Their support team is consistently responsive, engaged, and proactive. We've seen a strong commitment to continuous improvement and partnership.

Dislike

1. Complexity of the product can be ovewhelming. It's a very capable product, but it can be daunting to figure out how to use it effectively, particularly when you're first moving in. 2. When integrations break or behave in an unexpected way, we typically have to involve their support team. I'd like to have more self-service (on a related note, some integrations require Jellyfish's support to add API tokens vs. letting us do it ourselves). 3. Reporting and license management are great for engineering but rough for users who show up on import but are not devs. For example, we have a lot of people in our corporate IT team who use Cursor and other AI tools - they show up in Jellyfish as unassociated licenses that make our views a bit messy - I'd like to have better filtering to clean up our views.

Dislike

Like I mentioned above, it's too easy for Jellyfish to nudge an org toward micromanagement and stack-ranking, especially if you don't consciously guard against that. We found ourselves paying attention to the wrong things: ticket counts, activity graphs, comparison rankings at the expense of understanding actual outcomes, collaboration, and context

Dislike

Customization: Some of the configuration options and dashboards require deeper customization to fully reflect the nuances of our operating model. Additionally, interpreting some of the more advanced metrics still requires manual context-setting, meaning the platform isn't always 'self-serve' for less technical stakeholders.
