Lucid Visual Collaboration Suite Likes & Dislikes
I appreciate the wide range of shapes and templates provided that go beyond basic flowcharts. Having support for things like UML and ERDs elevates the experience and makes it more desirable to use. It's nice to have this for building out high-level workflows and user journeys. Makes it easy to visualize a happy path and identify edge cases we run into in product development. The software makes it easy to show relationships between various items. Also a small thing, but I appreciate being able to have the swimlanes to show how something will affect different user roles.
I personally like the UI, which is so easy to use. Even if the person is working for the first time, they can even easily explore the tool and the features available. Drag and drop functionality which work without any issue in the browser and the easy of modelling processes in the tool works like a charm. In addition, it has all the available elements of BPMN available as well, which makes it a light and easy tool to use.
The shape library is top notch, and click-and-drag enables us to accomplish our maps quickly. We're able to easily build our own shape library for ease of use. It also makes diagramming on the fly in a meeting incredibly simple. The conditional rules are great, and the fact that Lucid has built in yes/no conditions for arrows and colors is amazing. One less thing for us to have to do. The backend UI and foldering makes finding what we've been working on simple and easy. The tabs also within the individual projects and being able to link certain shapes to specific tabs helps keep everything organized.
I don't have a ton of gripes with the software. The main thing that comes to my mind is that it is sometimes quite noticeable that it's not always very performant. On some larger, more complex diagrams it can feel pretty laggy and not great.
Personally, there so limited options available in the tool. For e.g., if a person has to create the organization taxonomy, there is no option to do so.
Sometimes I struggle with the export functionality. It has gotten better over the years enabling a bit more customization as to how you want it to appear on a page, but I'd like far more control over placement when I export to pdf. The pricing has been fine up to now with the handful of users who are in Lucid regularly, but we're beginning to train some of our other teams to process map, however, they're not going to be using it as regularly. I wish there was some sort of lower tier license to purchase for them. I wish shapes would autoadjust to the size of the text in them instead of me having to take the time to grab the corner and adjust until it's just right.
