Overall, it has good performance and cost per TB for storing data. It's a reliable solution for geodata processing and designed for non- disruptive upgrades. It supports multiple protocols which works well for VMware and file shares. We have been using it for our GIS department to process Geo data for ArcGIS pro and it works flawlessly.

At the time of implementation, they evaluated our use cases, suggested migration methods, and provided friendly support for the implementation. In addition to technical support after implementation, they also provided suggestions on how to use the system on an ongoing basis, which made us feel that our investment was being used effectively.

NetApp AFF C-Series Provides Strong Performance But Faces Expansion Cost Challenges

    5.0
    Dec 8, 2025
Our overall experience with NetApp AFF C-Series has been very positive. The platform delivered exactly what we needed: an affordable all-flash solution with strong data services and predictable performance for mixed workloads. ONTAP One's licensing simplified feature activation and reduced administrative overhead, while the system's efficiency helped us meet sustainability goals by cutting power and rack space compared to hybrid arrays. Day-to-day operations are stable thanks to mature ONTAP OS e.g. non-disruptive upgrades and unified multiprotocol support. Service and support for the storage array and software is outstanding - we already had several hardware issues in our fleet, and they were solved very fast and proactively by NetApp's support organization.

Performance of NetApp AFF C-Series Across Market Features

NetApp AFF C-Series Likes & Dislikes

Like

The first thing is a good costing compared to other Vendor. Second, it has excellent storage efficiency for deduplication and compression of data, and the C series is really good for optimized for capacity, not peak performance. It's a great solution for VDI for storing the profile data with stable snapshot and backups functionality.

Like

Users are free to perform their own maintenance. Comparable products from other companies often require intervention from the manufacturer's support engineers, leaving users dissatisfied with their agility, but NetApp products allow for a lot of self-maintenance, so you can take advantage of our extensive support and build exactly what you need.

Like

Compact footprint due to high storage density, single license covering all on-box features, and anti-ransomware capabilities. The support site is very easy to navigate when compared to alternative vendors.

Dislike

Well, the C series is not designed for ultra low latency as it works great for general workloads and can be a bit expensive when adding shelves later. It also has less performance tuning options and sometimes users have reported high CPU with average IOPS.

Dislike

Dislike

PowerShell integration has lost some usability since the move to REST API's. Several new cloud based features are moving to an additional cost/subscription model. Some components of a cluster can reach end of life before the controllers which effectively shortens the life of the cluster as a whole.
