Strong Centralised Management with tools such as ActiveIQ for monitoring performance, capacity and health across multiple clusters. Diverse compatibility across many platforms and interfaces such as NFS/SMB/CIFS/iSCSI/Fibre channel/NVMe and even S3. Very user friendly with exceptionally strong knowledge base

Too expensive Vendor lockin due to different aspects: - the fact that you never renew the complete system but parts expire lifetime on different points in time - licensing cost that limits for example S3 autotiering options (another vendor requires an expensive license) to Netapp in combination with MC - backup efficiency drops a lot if you don't use snapvault or snapmirror to move data between storage clusters and this is not compatible with other vendors Late to add anti crypto features

Prise negotiation windows was limited

High Maintenance / Support costs for NetApp contracts. Premium support tiers can add even more expenses. Not all options are available through the GUI - fine tuning of the system can require considerable knowledge of the CLI which is a definite learning curve. Costly to expand physical storage - this can require additional shelves or even upgrading of controllers which can be a large capital expense.

good price per capacity ratio. due to the high storage efficiency, a smaller capacity is needed compared to a DIY storage. very good integration into other tools also allows the later adaption of the setup if required.
