What I like most is how NCP helps simplify things from an operational standpoint. Actions like one-click upgrades make ops much simpler than managing individual hypervisors. The fact it can extend to other clouds is really great too.
Hyperconverged Infrastructure easy to maintain and manage & small footprint compared to 3 tier infrastructure, user friendly GUI.
1. Single management & operation pane with PRISM including key features such as capacity forecasting, automation tools. 2. Supports both all flash and hybrid storage combinations in a single cluster and is a hardware agnostic solution giving the customer the flexibility to customize and select the combination of compute, storage and hypervisor based on their actual requirements. 3. Support for multiple hypervisors, one can use its native AHV or can even use ESXI and Hyper-V offering wide acceptance in the virtualization market.
The pricing model is the biggest drawback, as it feels like it falls specifically in the premium realm of solutions without great options at a lower cost. The transition from other hypervisor/virtualized solutions can be daunting as well, so having a better option for doing those migrations in an automated fashion would be great.
Rebuild of the Nutanix software if needed can be cumbersome & time consuming. Limitations of AHV compared to other competitors.
1. The platform lags behind its competition when it comes to micro segmentation and advanced networking features. Nutanix flow needs more development in the advanced security features segment. 2. DC and DR replication is advertised as a native feature and free, however, practical deployment needs to be aware of the bandwidth constraints before using the feature if one doesn't have good network bandwidth between the DC and DR site. 3. Support for containers is not mature and is more of a lightweight container orchestration platform, so if an organization wants to run both enterprise-level container workloads and VMs from a single platform, then it may need to integrate with other solutions.
