Overall, our experience with Scale Computing has been positive. The units have been reliable and the management interface is intuitive enough that it doesn't add overhead to our team. For a logistics operation like ours where uptime matters, it's been a solid platform. Setup was straight forward and day to day management hasn't required much intervention.

“Limited Management Features and Integration Challenges Noted With Virtualization Product”

I wanted to like this product. With the rising costs of other virtualization products, I thought this might be a fit, but in the end it lacked features and good resources.

To borrow a quote "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". The magic in the H3 system is in its software virualization, DR and unbreakable stability.

I cannot overstate how much of a rock-solid fire and forget solution Scale H3 is. Once deployed, the system simply runs, requiring next to zero daily mainteance. It delivers a highly streamlined virtualization environment with robust backup solutions baked in. Centrailzed network management and straightforward routing configs are done during initial setup.

Despite higher cost, solid stability and effortless VM management win the day!

From deployment to daily use, SCALE has ben a rock solid investment for my organization. When we were looking to implement a new hypervisor solution, what SCALE brought to the table was unlike anything I had seen before. We decided to go all-in on their solutions including their Hyperconverged cluster to run our production servers and a DR node to handle our backups and replicas. The hardest part about the setup was just getting our network configured to function the way SCALE needs it to as their engineers, at the time, were not overly familiar with UniFi but we did get it configured properly and have not had a problem with it since.

Straightforward setup and seamless VM migration enhance daily administration tasks and firmware update with zero downtime

Great tool. Simplifies administration activities with a great dashboard to ease visibility on infrastructure resources and the ability to run bulk operations on a selected group of VMs like start, shutdown and delete. This might sound like it's not much, but in the case of time sensitive scenarios like maintenance activities and disaster recovery they come in handy. Also, the support team is quick to respond and effective.

Reduced datacenter footprint and simplified server builds streamline business operations

Representing a small Information Technology team of five, we were looking for a self-sufficient system that could maximize our time and serve as the most efficient and effective method for the business. Scale was not only able to provide the ideal solution for our business size but could also provide a quick turnaround for support as needed.

A few things really stand out after working with Scale Computing in our environment: Simplified HCI architecture - Having compute, storage and virtualization rolled into a single platform eliminates the need for a separate SAN infrastructure or a standalone hypervisor license. HC3 Management Interface - The web-based management console is genuinely easy to use. Spinning up and managing VMs doesn't require deep virtualization expertise, which is hugely beneficial. Low Maintenance Overhead - Once the units are configured, day-to-day management is minimal. Updates and patching through the HC3 interface are straightforward and don't require a maintenance window that disrupts operations.

Like

I like that it can automatically update itself without much intervention. It also seems to just work and even after a power outage, it would come up on its own.

Like

*Unshakeable stability in any environment.* Stability is key here. Even in an unstable network environment, the H3 system will not go corrupt or lose data. The onboarding process is well thought out and covers every aspect of setup. *World-class support team.* I cannot speak highly enough of the support team. Their responses are not only fast, but accurate. I have never needed more than one response from support to get my issue fixed. I can't emphasize how important that is to me. To further this point, their KB knowledge base is also constantly updated and evaluated. *Built-In, Layered DR.* The disaster recovery node is a very well thought out process as well. You set up automated snapshot replication from the production system to the disaster recovery system, and you are always in a position to keep your most critical VMs up and running. Having layers of data protection is amazing. *High-yield Depulication.* The deduplication technology in H3 is remarkable. I don't pretend to know how it works, but it does. With storage costs being what they are, this deduplication software is a major cost savings. *Zero-downtime updates.* The update process is well thought out. Most system updates can be applied during production time and do not affect end users. Update time can be anywhere from 30-90 minutes per node in the cluster, but it has never had one hiccup. No more scheduling down time.

Dislike

Honestly, there haven't been many significant weaknesses in our experience, but a few areas worth noting: Hardware Failure - We've had SSD's fail on a few occasions and had to replace them. While the cluster stayed up and the redundancy worked as intended, the replacement process adds some operational overhead that we have to plan around. Licensing and Cost Transparency - The pricing and licensing structure can be a bit opaque when planning for growth or renewals. More straightforward cost visibility as you scale up nodes would be helpful. Support Escalation Speed - While support has been adequate, response times on non-critical issues can be slower than ideal.

Dislike

The interface doesn't give you many options. It's very simple and you can't see what is going on under the hood. It also is lacking in features that would be helpful in managing the systems and servers. It doesn't integrate with many backup systems, and it's also hard to move any existing systems into it.

Dislike

The only drawback, and I can't stress how minor this is, is that when using the web console to view a server's GUI, you can't always go full screen. The H3 system clearly states that RDP or VNC are recommended.
