Microsoft is still behind on legal hold capabilities.
I tried using O365 Compliance Center to place content on legal hold. It is an "all or nothing tool" meaning you have to place email, Teams chats and channels, OneNote, Sharepoint etc. on hold. Data must be exported to search and review. The system is not intuitive slow to respond. Support has limited knowledge of legal aspects and often sends links to user groups that may or may not be exactly on point with your question.
