PRTG is very easy to set up. And once the server is in place, the auto-discovery tool makes it easy to monitor individual devices on the network. You can create your own template for sensors, or use the default auto discovery option to be given a wide range of monitoring options.
An extensive sensor library and flexible alarms, it helps me immediately if the bandwidth is saturated, for example. Can create and custom dashboards
The Auto Discovery feature is great as long as you configure it with your own slimmed down templates. The licensing is easy to understand and is based on sensors. If you have an environment that is very spread out, it doesnt cost anything extra to install extra probe- or extra core-servers. You can do all actions through the API!
As with most monitoring solutions, it can be resource intensive. Especially when montioring as a cloud service provider. In addition, customisation in my experience is limited. Although there is a well documented API which allows for this, it does require a more in depth knowledge of programmability.
The interface could be improved, it feels a bit outdated The UI can be a little bit slow when monitoring a large number of sensors
The core server gets slow at larger installations and the migration tool between core servers is not super. This can be mitigated with some planning and should get better in a few releases (SQL) Most custom sensors are not included in the templates.

These are my thoughts on the on premise installation since I have no experience with their cloud service. PRTG is a network monitoring application where your plan is to have simple monitoring using mainly SNMP and WMI, PRTG is easy to setup, easy to scale (if you plan for it) and easy to maintain.
