The Auto Discovery feature is great as long as you configure it with your own slimmed down templates. The licensing is easy to understand and is based on sensors. If you have an environment that is very spread out, it doesnt cost anything extra to install extra probe- or extra core-servers. You can do all actions through the API!
An extensive sensor library and flexible alarms, it helps me immediately if the bandwidth is saturated, for example. Can create and custom dashboards
The great aprt is the lighthness of the sensor and the capabilities of having a app to notification purposes. It has its own DB, app and knowledge base.
The core server gets slow at larger installations and the migration tool between core servers is not super. This can be mitigated with some planning and should get better in a few releases (SQL) Most custom sensors are not included in the templates.
The interface could be improved, it feels a bit outdated The UI can be a little bit slow when monitoring a large number of sensors
Sometimes you must know very well the settings of the tool - otherwise you will be lost on why you receive or do not receive some parameters.

PRTG is a network monitoring application where your plan is to have simple monitoring using mainly SNMP and WMI, PRTG is easy to setup, easy to scale (if you plan for it) and easy to maintain.
