Overview

Product Information on PostgreSQL

Updated 13th October 2025

What is PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is an open-source relational database management software designed to support a wide range of workloads and applications. The software provides features such as advanced data types, transactional integrity, multi-version concurrency control, extensibility, and support for procedural languages. PostgreSQL enables organizations to manage structured data with support for complex queries, indexing, and data analytics. It addresses business requirements for data reliability, scalability, and customization through its architecture and compliance with SQL standards. The software also offers tools for backup, recovery, and high availability, supporting both small-scale and enterprise-level database operations.

PostgreSQL Pricing

PostgreSQL software from EnterpriseDB follows a subscription-based pricing model where charges are determined by the specific edition, deployment environments, and support options selected. The software is typically priced per core or per server and includes access to updates and technical support as part of the subscription. Pricing may vary based on the level of services and features required by the user.

I have been using PostgreSQL for the last 4-5 years now, and I can say that anyone can really consider this database if they are looking to integrate a sequelized database in their application.

Deciding Factors: PostgreSQL Vs. Market Average

PostgreSQL Likes & Dislikes

Like

- As it is open-source, the costing factor can be eliminated, even for larger applications. - Scalability is reliable - Learning curve is not difficult

Dislike

Free tooling support is limited, and the tools are not very mature, quite clunky to work with / administer. Settings for transactionality and being able to apply groups of scripts at once are too complex and more sophisticated than necessary, default settings too are often unintuitive
