Performance of Prisma Access Across Market Features
Prisma Access Likes & Dislikes
Features served in the solution are more than sufficient. The main reason why we've selected this solution instead of others is the enriched connectivity options. Service connection and remote connection is the go to option for our data center, cloud and 3rd party connectivity. Rule management is nearly identical to current on-premise Palo Alto/PAN Next Gen Firewalls. Global Protect Agent coexists with existing PAN VPN Gateways. Therefore, we don't need to maintain additional agent software on the clients. It also provides us with redundancy in case there's a switch over to other VPN GWs. AI Security, CASB and Data Security are also covered. ESA and Focused Services also cover Prisma Access. Global and Local is great with these services.
Does very good to provides a lot of high level visibility into the traffic across our organization, and is able to continue to expand along with our expanding organization. Does good to integrate into other products to provide even further visibility.
One of the biggest advantages for us is the centralized policy management. Security rules can be managed in one place and applied consistently across remote users and locations. That makes it much easier to maintain visibility and control compared to traditional VPN setups. Another thing I appreciate is the integration with the broader Palo Alto ecosystem. Since we already use Palo Alto firewalls in other parts of our infrastructure, the configuration and policy model felt familiar. The cloud-based approach also reduced the need to manage additional hardware.
Management is a bit bulky. It's not very smooth compared to other vendors. Copilot in the portal is not action oriented. Prisma Access recommended infra version is still 10.2. I feel a bit outdated in comparison to our existing Palo Alto Firewalls. There's no small agent for the connectivity option as we're using the same Global Protect agent. Data security is not covered in the agent, therefore there is a gap for data security where we need to maintain additional agents on the client. Accessing the product team is very hard. We have not had a single customer meeting for at least a year. There is no customer board community. By the way, Palo Alto stopped conducting Global Ignites since 2020, I have no option to see what's going on with the Prisma Access Solution.
Does require a significant study into to use at its full ability as it has a significant learning curve. Some places there is not good documentation so you will have to search hard or figure it out yourself. Is expensive but generally worth the price for it.
The initial setup can be quite complex, especially if you're integrating it with existing network infrastructure and identitiy systems. It took us some time to fully understand the architecture and best practices. Troubleshooting can also require experience with the Palo Alto ecosystem, as logs and configurations are spread across different components. In addition, licensing and capacity planning ca sometimes be difficult to estimate when user numbers change frequently.

Smooth Performance and High Uptime Offset By Limited Data Security and Vision
Palo Alto Prisma access solution provides enhanced connectivity options with extended security. Product is specifically designed for Palo Alto customers. It has the same features as on-premise Palo Alto Next Gen Firewall and VPN gateways, so the transition is smooth. We are using Strata Cloud Manager for Prisma access management and monitoring. Strata Cloud Manager is more suited for cloud-only deployments and customers. Logging and monitoring options with the latest insight widget is awesome. It covers nearly all the security features for a company in the cloud. Uptime is very high. Performance is smooth. Local edges cover mainly all the primary areas. We have not seen a downtime incident in at least a 2 year period. - DEVELOPER FOR WEBMETHODS, MS POWERPLATFO50M-1B USDIT ServicesReview Source
Reliable cloud-based secure remote access with strong policy control, but requires careful planning during deployment
We started using Palo Alto Prisma Access a few years ago when our organization needed a more scalable way to provide secure remote access for employees and external partners. Traditional VPN solutions were becoming difficult to manage, especially with a growing number of remote users and distributed systems. In our experience, Prisma Access helped simplify secure connectivity by moving a lot of the infrastructure into the cloud. It allowed us to enforce consistent security policies without having to maintain multiple on-premise gateways. Once the initial setup and integration with our identity provider were complete, the platform became relatively stable and easy to operate. - Engineer50M-1B USDIT ServicesReview Source

Overall our experience has been very positive. Our remote users have given us great feedback as well. The platform is reliable without the complexity of other perimeter security solutions.
