Overview

Product Information on Prisma Access

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Prisma Access?

Prisma Access is a cloud-delivered security software developed by Palo Alto Networks that provides secure access to applications and resources for users regardless of location. The software integrates firewall-as-a-service, secure web gateway, cloud access security broker, and zero trust network access capabilities. Prisma Access helps organizations protect remote and hybrid workforces by offering consistent security policies, threat prevention, and encrypted traffic inspection. The software addresses challenges related to secure connectivity, visibility, and control over application usage while supporting secure connections for mobile users and branch offices. It is designed to simplify network security management and improve compliance across distributed environments.

Prisma Access Pricing

Prisma Access software uses a subscription-based pricing model where charges are determined by factors such as user count, bandwidth requirements, and specific service features. Pricing may vary based on deployment size and selected capabilities, and is typically tailored for organizations through customized plans or tiers.

“Smooth Performance and High Uptime Offset By Limited Data Security and Vision”

Palo Alto Prisma access solution provides enhanced connectivity options with extended security. Product is specifically designed for Palo Alto customers. It has the same features as on-premise Palo Alto Next Gen Firewall and VPN gateways, so the transition is smooth. We are using Strata Cloud Manager for Prisma access management and monitoring. Strata Cloud Manager is more suited for cloud-only deployments and customers. Logging and monitoring options with the latest insight widget is awesome. It covers nearly all the security features for a company in the cloud. Uptime is very high. Performance is smooth. Local edges cover mainly all the primary areas. We have not seen a downtime incident in at least a 2 year period.

Core product works, but features and updates are slow to roll out and they try and do dramatic price increases at contract end. Support is about average.

Features served in the solution are more than sufficient. The main reason why we've selected this solution instead of others is the enriched connectivity options. Service connection and remote connection is the go to option for our data center, cloud and 3rd party connectivity. Rule management is nearly identical to current on-premise Palo Alto/PAN Next Gen Firewalls. Global Protect Agent coexists with existing PAN VPN Gateways. Therefore, we don't need to maintain additional agent software on the clients. It also provides us with redundancy in case there's a switch over to other VPN GWs. AI Security, CASB and Data Security are also covered. ESA and Focused Services also cover Prisma Access. Global and Local is great with these services.

Overall, very stable and the security elements work well

I like that the product is managed by PAN. I'm responsible for implementing the security features and policy, without having to maintain the backend systems that enable these features and policies. I can focus on the security aspects that bring value instead of putting effort and specialist-power into product operations.

Management is a bit bulky. It's not very smooth compared to other vendors. Copilot in the portal is not action oriented. Prisma Access recommended infra version is still 10.2. I feel a bit outdated in comparison to our existing Palo Alto Firewalls. There's no small agent for the connectivity option as we're using the same Global Protect agent. Data security is not covered in the agent, therefore there is a gap for data security where we need to maintain additional agents on the client. Accessing the product team is very hard. We have not had a single customer meeting for at least a year. There is no customer board community. By the way, Palo Alto stopped conducting Global Ignites since 2020, I have no option to see what's going on with the Prisma Access Solution.

Support is lackluster and contract negotiations always start with ATTEMPTS at steep increase.

If you run have snowflake use-cases or cannot modernise some of your applications / designs, there are fewer knobs to turn to make it work, as it is a managed service. In other solutions where you have direct control over the devices and infrastructure - you have more options to implement workarounds for your tech-debt. In a perfect world, this would be a positive as it forces you to follow proper design / application guidelines, but for our imperfect, legacy-riddled, brown-field environments it can complicate matters.
