Recurly really is something because this tool shows detailed information on what the action is for (to avoid mistakes). For example, when changing the subscription of our customers, it offers to give detailed information on the next step that you will take before submitting the changes. Plus, we can preview the invoices so that we can also make sure that we avoid mistakes when charging the member. On top of that, the user interface of recurly may be old fashioned but it's still user friendly.
1) gateway agnostic, not only you can choose various gateway you can also set up failover or select optimal gateway on the go 2) Tax integrations, oftentimes neither gateways nor payment solutions provide no ready made support for tax calculations fully relying on the customer to solve that problem 3) Customer support and subscription management - without complex set up you can easilyintegrate zendesk with you support tooling (e.g. zendesk)
The variety of data that is being collected to be able to analyze it when needed
Recurly got the most of it but few things that I don't totally dislike but wanted to improve are its GUI, more customizable reports dashboard, and add more filtering capabilities when searching for accounts.
Documentation - while mostly good, may lack important updates Customer service - unless you question can be answered straight from FAQ, tickets can take more that a week to get response no to say reasonable resolution
There were a few integrations that did not go as smooth as possible mainly because it was a bit difficult to understand what was missing from our setup.
