Product Information on Red Hat Virtualization

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Red Hat Virtualization?

Red Hat Virtualization is a software platform designed to manage and deploy virtualized server and desktop environments. The software supports the creation, monitoring, and administration of virtual machines, allowing organizations to consolidate workloads and optimize resource utilization. Through centralized management tools, Red Hat Virtualization enables administrators to automate provisioning, balance workloads, and maintain security across virtual environments. The software provides features such as live migration, high availability, and integrated networking and storage management. By enabling efficient virtualized infrastructure, Red Hat Virtualization addresses business needs for scalability, flexibility, and cost management in IT operations.

Red Hat Virtualization Pricing

Red Hat Virtualization software uses a subscription-based pricing model structured by the number of sockets or virtual machines managed. Subscriptions typically include access to software updates and support for a specified term, with tiered options varying by environment size and support level. The software pricing is designed for enterprise deployments, with details varying by service scope and duration.

Red Hat Virtualization Likes & Dislikes

Like

Ease of use, cheaper than almost all other competition, a trusted name you know with some easy to use migration tools.

Like

The cost effectiveness of this software is great. The only downfall we ran into was our lack of Linux experience. Aside from that, this software will check off a lost of boxes for any business.

Like

I can spin up 20 test VMs, configure their networking, and tear them down with a single playbook. If it breaks, I can still SSH into the host and check the standard Linux logs. We get great density in our hardware without a lot of overhead.

Dislike

takes a while to setup if it is your first jump into virtualization, some support techs aren't as knowledgeable as others, they offer hands on support but it sometimes takes a bit for responses.

Dislike

Not being familiar with the Linux environment whatsoever, this was a bit more technical to get up and running than we had hoped for. It does have all the bells and whistles that other suppliers of virtualization software have, but it really helps if you have some knowledge of Linux before jumping into it.

Dislike

Setting up a self-hosted engine can be incredibly finicky. Getting the SPICE or VNC console to open on my MacBook is always a hassle. Knowing that support ends in 2026 makes every upgrade feel pointless.

I've been managing a small RHV cluster for our dev/test environment for about a year now. Coming from other proprietary hypervisors background, RHV felt like a bargain because the licensing costs were significantly lower. Overall it works.

Red Hat Virtualization allows us to scale our infrastructure easily as the business grows. By consolidating multiple workloads onto fewer physical machines, Red Hat Virtualization ensures that CPU, RAM and storage are better utilized, reducing waste. As it reduced the number of physical machines, it decreased the consumption of power, cooling requirements and hardware maintenance costs.
