SAS Viya Likes & Dislikes
Apart from SAS Viya's capabilities as a platform with a lot of opportunities and solutions, what stands out the most is the vendors' effort in working together with us solving the issues that occurred during migration. Having access to SAS R&D as well as SingleStore and Apache Airflow resources when needed, has been a key element in making this possible within the timeline available.
Its Cloud based operating makes it super convenient and reliable, because now I don't have to worry about carrying my laptop with me every time. All I need is a stable internet connection and a supported web browser and we are good to go.
I think SAS Viya stands out as the most comprehensive and robust data analysis software for having a good set of visualization and statistical tools to use, plus features for creating interactive dashboards.
The main issue we encountered was that part of the software was not 100% finished at the level we expected. To mitigate the most important parts, it was critical that we had skilled SAS consultants on the project, as well as a close relationship with SAS R&D. Hence, we got many of the fixes we requested delivered and applied without too many delays. We are also an early bird as a customer on SAS Viya with both SingleStore and Airflow as a hosted managed service, with the good and the bad following that scenario / choice. This is also the reason why I'm scoring some parts only as average, since we have yet to find the correct balance of what we as the customer should be allowed to administrate ourselves.
There are still lots of bugs to resolve in it. In addition, since its an cloud based system, its very much costly to use.
The software bugs down sometimes and you have to re-log in. SAS Viya could also add more capabilities for editing different parts or sections of a visualization and also a capability to export a page showing the expanded version of the models. For example, when you export a decision tree, what is exported is only what is visible on screen. For a decision tree with a number of levels, it cannot fit on the screen. Maybe this is something they could work on. And although I don't necessarily dislike it, but it would be great to have an AI assistant embedded in the platform to help with analyzing and interpreting data models and visualization, as well as suggesting appropriate models for particular cases.

Migrating from an on-prem SAS 9.4 platform to a SAS Viya Hosted Managed Service as part of a Cloud Strategy
We still believe that we made the right technical choice based on our situation, where the old platform did not meet the new business strategy where becoming a data driven organization was a key element. As part of the migration to the Cloud, moving from a SAS 9.4 platform on-prem to a SAS Viya Hosted Managed Platform was the most reasonable choice within the timeline we had available. For anyone in the same situation, and with a lot of legacy SAS code, I would recommend SAS Viya as a natural path forward. The overall experience with this platform has so far been very good, except for some challenges in being an early bird for SAS Viya with SingleStore and Airflow as a Hosted Managed Platform. - Data AnalystGov't/PS/EdEducationReview Source
SAS Viya’s Robust Learning Resources Offset By Bugs And Export Limitations
I like SAS Viya for having an extensive set of tools you can use to analyze data. There's just so much you can do with SAS Viya and is really great for data analysis. It also helps that SAS Viya has a learning website where you can watch videos on how to navigate the different modules of the software. Add to that is their youtube channel which is great in providing easy to follow instructional videos. I just have a bit of reservation when it comes to stability as I encountered a couple of times when the software is hanging and I cannot edit some variables without having to log out of the software. There were also a couple of times when I cannot log in, but I must say the customer support is quick to assist. - DATA ANALYST<50M USDHealthcare and BiotechReview Source
SAS Viya Offers Comprehensive AI Suite But Faces Complexity and Cost Concerns
SAS Viya delivers a state-of-the-art, cloud-native AI and analytics platform that increases productivity, collaboration and speed. SAS Viya Workbench Offers Convenient Access But Experiences Occasional Connectivity Issues
I truly love using SAS Viya workbench; it makes SAS extremely accessible anywhere where you have wifi, and is quick to wrap your head around the formatting. One of the only drawbacks is sometimes my workbench will go offline, which be becomes annoying to reload the window every 30 minutes so I can get back to SAS. - Data and Analytics Manager50M-1B USDHealthcare and BiotechReview Source
Viya Integration Of Open Languages Praised Yet Bugs And Pricing Remain Issues
All in all, my experience of using Viya is good, however, not that great mainly considering all the costly price as well as promising processing speed. Its installation is still ongoing in my system, and there are still lots of bugs in Viya which are simply keeping me from completely shifting to Viya from SAS EG. Undoubtedly Product is awesome, its way ahead of its time, its has also incorporated all the open languages like R and Python, so we can use those languages anytime.
