StarWind is a prime mover in the domain of storage virtualization and hyperconvergence technologies, having been involved with the development and implementation of IT infrastructure optimization solutions before virtualization became mainstream. The company's unique development, StarWind Virtual SAN, is a software-defined storage solution which removes the need for physical shared storage like SAN and NAS. It works with any hypervisor, making it quite versatile. The company has added value to businesses across different sectors by offering enterprise features without hefty price tags, thanks to the development of the StarWind HyperConverged Appliance. This combines storage, computation, networking, and StarWind software into a hyper-converged platform. StarWind's solutions, including the Virtual SAN, have been certified for use with different systems like Windows Server and Citrix XenServer. Since its inception in 2003, many businesses globally have opted for StarWind's solutions.

It completely eliminates the need for an expensive, proprietary physical SAN. By allowing us to use standard server hardware and internal drives, StarWind dramatically reduced our capital expenditure while giving us a more resilient and flexible infrastructure than we had before.
Installation is not too complicated and use of old hardware key
1) Ease of deployment - upon contract signing, they took care of everything. 2) Customization - I needed a very specific service for a finite period of time that was not originally presented as an option. StarWind accommodated my needs. 3) Price - Usually, customization leads to an increased cost, but not in this case.
The initial setup and configuration have a significant learning curve. This isn't a next, next, finish installation. It requires a solid understanding of networking (like configuring dedicated heartbeat and sync interfaces) and storage concepts. While the documentation and support are excellent, you need to be prepared for a more hands-on, complex deployment compared to a plug-and-play appliance.
A Little hard to find help
Our changing infrastructure mandates leaving the on-prem servers being managed by StarWind, so we won't be able to partner with them going forward.
