The single biggest thing Tanium does better than anything else i have worked is the speed of data. When i query an endpoint, i get the answers in seconds, not the next morning or after 24hrs. That might sound like a small thing, but belive me during an audit when the auditor asks for evidence, this matter a alot. The unified agent model is also a clear differentiator. We are not deploying separate agents for patching, compliance, asset inventory, and security. One agent does all of it, which keeps our endpoint overhead low and reduces the surface area of tools we need to manage.
What i like the most about Tanium is its ability to provide real time visibility and control across endpoints in the environment, and the ease of deployment due to the cloud offering. I also appreciate the breadth of the platform, as it continues to add multiple capabilities.
Tanium Certificate Manager has delivered strong value. The SBOM feature helps us compare AMIs effectively. Network control and configuration are straight forward to manage.
The onboarding experience was not a great, the platform is powerful but it does not hold our hands and unless we have someone who already knows Tanium its difficult to know the full potential and use it.
On the product side, there are capabilities that are tied to higher product-tier bundles, which means you often have to purchase additional modules or entire packages just to access a specific feature. On the service side, the lack of direct access to Tanium support is a real challenge.
The interface is powerful but it's hard to navigate. Question Builder is not intuitive, and figuring out how to create filters and prompts should be aided by AI, based on natural descriptive language inputs. Using the plethora of available toolsets requires familiarisation with advanced concepts, so there should be more technical webinars/tutorials/blogs on the platform's products and features.

Tanium as a platform for Vulnerability Management. The core features of have depth, however, the structure of certain modules for VA and Patching is not straight forward, requiring different licensing or modules that are typically available for other solutions in the market that offer VA and Patch. Another challenge we have encountered is the support model. Customers cannot connect directly to Tanium, they have to go through the distributor to raise or escalate issues. Tanium's SaaS offering, Tanium Cloud, has been a real game changer. I was part of the team carrying out the migration from our self-hosted server to SaaS, removing the previous operational burden and allowing us to solely focus on managing our endpoints. The migration was smooth and there was plenty of available vendor support. Tanium agents provide near real-time data collection which has been invaluable for risk visibility and reporting. We leverage the dashboard to categorise risks, gather system information across our servers, and generate structured report-ready outputs. A large portion of our domain-specific reporting is based on these scans, and the platform has become central to our endpoint security strategy. I have had a very good experience over the past 6 years using Tanium. The platform continues to improve and the user interface continues to become more user friendly. The only thing I wish they would change is to bring back the TAM model. I had weekly meetings with my TAM before and now I don't have those meetings and have to open tickets with support.
