Performance of ThoughtSpot Analytics Across Market Features
ThoughtSpot Analytics Likes & Dislikes
1. Extremely intuitive search-based analytics 2. Strong modeling layer that keeps data organized and makes report building easier 3. Smooth integration with Snowflake (connectors and SQL based workflows) - simple connector updates and smooth data onboarding 4. Spotter provides AI-driven insights that speed up formula creation. 5. Constant addition of new features and improvements 6. Great tech support
Fast-loading dashboards, flexible sharing permissions, integration with Google Sheets and the ability to schedule reports.
- This is the truly 'ready for AI' platform - they are ahead and the proof is in the pudding - test it out and see for yourself! - Search base analytics - they were the first tool to bring it at this scale and efficiency. It truly is a differentiator. - Ease of drill downs and navigating hierarchies - typical BI tools require you to specify these paths and program them, but ThoughtSpot does it intuitively based on their modeling of the data. As long as your data structures and joins are well defined, you've got out of the box advanced capabilities - Ease of getting data out in excel - most BI tools define what you can download from a visual / table. ThoughtSpot is the only tool I know that allows you to customize the data fields before you download. No more offline data wrangling - you do it on the platform. - Ready support for tabular and pivot table reports - helps put the 'excel' wizards in the camp of adopters!
1. Limited visualization customizations. For example, not being able to change the font size or a card size in KPIs or graphs is really disappointing. 2. Formula limitations - we had some problems with advanced formulas, getting incorrect results or errors building formulas. Had to use SQL views to get around it - SQL is more flexible than formulas. 3. Not being able to use multiple connectors in the same model
It's difficult for users to discover the right dashboard they need; content management is difficult. There is no data catalog, so users cannot see definitions for things they're looking at. Natural language search is impossible without the data team doing a huge amount of up-front data modelling work and defining all the business logic and semantics.
- One major issue is understanding how ThoughtSpot works with data warehouses and supporting documentation on how data isn't stored on its servers. That could use a lot of simplification of terminology to help compliance and governance teams understand how to classify the risk from the tool - Sizing and font size adjustments on the dashboards. Resizing cuts off content and text which if only there was more control over the layout / text edits, that would make it perfect - Landing page experience with reports and dashboards. There isn't a good experience for enterprises / users to establish a custom landing experience OR have an easy way to browse the library of content that is available. It needs a simpler interface when teams who create tons of content are using it

Efficient Data Modeling and Administration Highlighted in ThoughtSpot User Experience
I've been using ThoughtSpot for about 2 years now. It has been an excellent BI tool to work with, even for someone who was new to BI platforms when I started. The learning curve was not steep. I quickly started creating Answers, Liveboards and custom formulas. It was easy to switch from grid to graph views. I tried using custom graphs (free option), but it definitely needs more work. I understand that the paid version (Vitara) is better but haven't tried it. The introduction of models (formerly worksheets) made the process even more structured and efficient. I liked that all the old worksheets were automatically converted to Models. When creating models, I like the ability to add multiple tables, then in the next step to search for columns in multiple tables/views, rename/add descriptions/synonyms etc. as needed, and then add the formulas that are presented as custom columns in the Answers. I also liked that I could use Spotter to create formulas. As a developer, I appreciate being able to create SQL views and use them directly in Models the same as tables. Administering our dev and prod environments, including updating connectors and bringing Snowflake tables and views into ThoughtSpot has been seamless. It would be even better if Models could support multiple connectors. Currently, only a single connector per model is supported. Overall, ThoughtSpot combines ease of use with easy and intuitive developer and admin capabilities. Their tech support is great - every time I needed help, I was able to either get someone to reply to me or hop on a call with me. It looks like they are constantly adding more features and improvements and it's exciting to see them grow. - Senior Manager of Product50M-1B USDBankingReview Source
It is time to start taking analytics seriously, let ThoughtSpot help!
From the sales cycle, through implementation and support, we have had constant contact with the team at ThoughtSpot and they have never shied away from bringing in help to drive our success. We aren't their largest account, but that has never stopped them from putting us front and center. 2 years into our implementation and we're working through new pieces and we still have their team available weekly to support - both remote and onsite to get this done. Great people who are invested in your success. - Director of Data and Analytics50M-1B USDMediaReview Source
Self-Service Analytics Transforms Data Use With Intuitive Search And LiveBoards
Our overall experience with ThoughtSpot has been exceptional over the past year and a half. It has fundamentally shifted how our organization consumes data, moving us away from static dashboards to true self-service analytics. The search interface is intuitive for our users, allowing non-technical folks to ask their own questions and get answers in seconds without relying on my data team for every request. The onboaring process was smooth, and the platform's ability to handle large datasets w/o compromising performance is impressive. It has empowered our teams to make faster, data-driven decisions and has freed up our analysts to focus on more strategic initiatives rather than backlog reporting. Truly a modern BI platform that delivers on its promises. - Data Analyst10B+ USDTransportationReview Source
ThoughtSpot is a great product boosted by the best support/success team out there!
The support provided to us by the customer success managers and developers has been excellent, this is truly a huge strength for ThoughtSpot. They are polite, friendly, and professional and are always readily available to jump in to offer their help directly with the product as well as being able to loop in other developers or engineers if they are needed to support. No suggestion or support request is too big or too small for ThoughtSpot and as a user and customer I feel well supported and just moments away from support if I need it. The ThoughtSpot team are always happy to join in with lab sessions either at our site or theirs and the hospitality at their site is brilliant. ThoughtSpot as a product itself has been on and is continuing to go on a journey and it is improving with each version release and each version release is bringing new benefits as well as providing a solution for any snags. The product is intuitive and is continuing to get better and better and really provides an excellent solution for providing data analytics to business users. I like the snappiness of being able to create insights quickly and work up many different answers/vizes and then finetune what I need to tell a story with data. The product lends itself well to both analysts with a higher level of technical knowledge and business users with less technical knowledge but some knowledge of their data in their domain. We started using ThoughtSpot when the capabilities were less than they are currently and we experienced some snags (which have been resolved as promised) and I'm sure the direction of travel is positive and in 12 months time my 4-star review would be a 5-star review. - Data and Analytics Manager50M-1B USDSoftwareReview Source
Analytics that business users actually use
We have been using Thoughtspot for over two years now, and overall it has been a very positive experience. I consider it a truly next generation analytics tool, particularly well suited to organisations that want to democratise access to data. From an implementation perspective, the technical onboarding was straightforward. Connecting Thoughtspot to our GCP environment was relatively easy, and the migration from our previous BI tool took just over three months. One important thing to highlight is that to fully unlock the value, data modelling needs to be done carefully and thoughtfully upfront. If the semantic layer is not designed well, it is easy to end up with messy and confusing models. This applies though to any modern BI tool. The main reason for the positive rating is the low adoption barrier for non-technical business users. Our biggest beneficiaries have been teams like Customer Success and Operations, where Analytics is now embedded directly into their day-to-day workflows. This level of adoption is a strong testament to the product's usability and overall design.
