Market Presence: Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms, Data Preparation Tools

Overview

Product Information on Tableau

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Tableau?

Tableau is a software designed for data visualization and business intelligence that enables users to connect, analyze, and share data insights from various sources. It provides features such as interactive dashboards, drag and drop analytics, and integration with spreadsheet, cloud, and relational databases. The software helps organizations transform raw data into visual representations including charts, graphs, and maps, allowing for the identification of patterns, trends, and outliers. Tableau addresses business challenges related to data analysis and reporting by simplifying the process of extracting actionable insights and supporting informed decision-making across different functional areas.

Tableau Pricing

Tableau software uses a subscription-based pricing model with different tiers depending on deployment options such as cloud or on-premises and user type, including Creator, Explorer, and Viewer roles. The pricing structure typically varies according to the number of users and the level of access to features, with annual or monthly payment options available.

“Tableau Centralizes Supply Chain Data But Lacks Integrated Predictive Analytics Tools”

4.0
Sep 9, 2025
Our overall experience implementing Tableau as our analytics platform for supply chain has been very positive. It has fundamentally changed how we view and interact with our operational data, moving us from static spreadsheets to dynamic, interactive dashboards. The ability to connect disparate data sources from our ERP for inventory to our TMS for logistics has given us a centralized view of the entire value chain. While the initial learning curve for our developers was moderate(i suggest in that more training material indeed), the platform's power in visualizing complex processes and identifying bottlenecks has provided a clear return on investment.

“Tableau Faces Community Decline and Identity Change Following Salesforce Acquisition”

3.0
Jan 12, 2026
Tableau was fantastic pre Salesforce takeover. The community was thriving and the product was accelerating at a rate you would expect. However despite a promise during the takeover that Tableau would remain untouched the inevitable happened and it became diversified, lost its identity and ultimately lost its user base / community

Performance of Tableau Across Market Features

Tableau Likes & Dislikes

Like

The standout feature for us is without a doubt its visualization capability. Tableau excels at translating millions of rows of complex supply chain data into clear, intuitive, and actionable insights. We've built dashboards that track everything from supplier On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) performance to live inventory levels across our global warehouses. The ability for a non-technical manager to drill down from a high-level KPI on a map to a specific shipment or SKU in seconds has empowered faster, more data-driven decision-making across the board.

Like

For pixel perfect charts and maps the product is in a league of its own. It can also be easily integrated with 3rd party products through its APIs and then be able to market on the Salesforce website

Like

1 - User-Friendly Data Visualisation : Drag & drop interface makes it easy to create interactive and visually appealing dashboards without deep coding knowledge. 2 - Powerful Data Connectivity : Connect seamlessly to a wide range of data sources. 3 - Interactive Dashboard & Analytics : Allow users to explore the data dynamically with filters and drill downs and storytelling features.

Dislike

While Tableau is best-in-class for descriptive (what happened) and diagnostic (why it happened) analytics, it is not an all-in-one solution for advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics. To leverage true AI/DSML for things like demand forecasting or network optimization, we've found it necessary to perform the modeling in separate environments (like Python or R) and then import the results back into Tableau for visualization. I would love to see more integrated, out-of-the-box capabilities for building and deploying these advanced predictive models directly within the platform to better support a true Digital Supply Chain Twin initiative.

Dislike

The biggest problem is being able to manage the sheer content of the landscape once it as been in operation for a few years. There can be vast numbers of dashboards and datasources and its difficult to know what is linked to where. The product has also failed to adapt to Natural Language questions capability

Dislike

1. High Cost - Tableau cost & licensing fees can be expensive, especially for small to mid sized organizations. 2 - Steep Learning Curve - While Tableau is powerful, mastering advanced features often requires significant training. 3 - Performance issues with Large Data - Tableau can sometimes struggle with very large or complex datasets, leading to slower load time & performance lags.

What Your Peers Are Saying About Tableau

IT Manager
Is anyone using a central AI to report on project status in realtime highlighting dependencies and bottlenecks. Or are you just connecting project management systems (MS Project, Jira, Primavera) to dashboards with Power BI or Tableau?
CIO
Leading indicators are super useful because they give you a heads-up about potential problems instead of just telling you what’s already gone wrong. We are using an AI powered tool ( can't be named here, I guess) that gets you insights that help you notice issues before they escalate. Plus, it really encourages everyone to be transparent about project status so the whole team knows what’s going on from the get-go. This openness motivates everyone to take responsibility and helps build strong teams that tackle problems early on and stay focused on their goals together. Traditional reporting often comes too late to make necessary changes. By being proactive and embracing transparency with some AI support, teams can adapt and improve on their own. The key is to catch issues early and empower teams to make adjustments as needed. AI plays a role in all team decisions, like a performance coach, and also helps out at the management level. It identifies risks and suggests improvements for senior executives. I hope that helps? 🙂

Data Manager
We are currently looking at moving from Spotfire to Tableau or Power BI. Our data is complex oil and gas data, not large volume retail or bank data. Any thoughts or experiences with this?
Data Scientist
Data needs to be curated into manageable, focus dataset or data mart, then have visualization tool to access for the given purpose.  Personally, Tableau.

A Powerful Tool for Insightful Decision-Making

    5.0
    Dec 27, 2025
As a data analyst, I have used Tableau for multiple projects and POC across different domains. Tableau made it easy for me to move raw data to meaningful insights without spending too much time on heavy technical steps. I am impressed with the list of data source connectors and how simple it is to connect to different data sources. The drag and drop interface feels very natural and simple, even when working on complex dashboards. When it comes to performance, it gave me more flexibility to handle large datasets while still keeping the dashboards responsive. Overall, Tableau has been a reliable and effective tool in my day to day work as a data analyst. It helped me deliver clear insights, Build impactful dashboards for the business organisations.

Tableau Offers Strong Security But Faces Interface and Performance Challenges

    5.0
    Jan 13, 2026
Using Tableau has been a phenomenal experience for me although there are some hiccups that I would like the developers to straighten out. They are not ground-breaking per se, and they do not hinder you from using Tableau to complete your tasks on a daily basis. For instance, I think that their user interface is kind of outdated and rough; considering our day and age that they can easily utilize modern tools to enhance how it looks and at time when I am using it, I experience quite some lag and it heavily buffers.
