What are Unified Communications as a Service?

Gartner defines unified communications as a service (UCaaS) as a multitenant, subscription-based service. It is cloud-delivered, and it provides business telephony features; external, public switched telephone network (PSTN) connectivity that enables inbound or outbound calling; and collaboration features, such as messaging and meetings. UCaaS services can be consumed by end users with traditional handsets, desktop clients, meeting room systems and mobile apps. Gartner’s definition of meetings for the UCaaS market focuses on the capabilities for internal collaboration, work from home and external presentation meeting use cases only. Other specialized use cases — such as webinar, remote support, distance learning and training — are often available from UCaaS offerings, but are not mandatory for this research. These use cases are part of a separate market defined by Gartner (meeting solutions).

Dialpad is an amazing and robust softphone/voip solution for businesses. There are many software platforms that provide some element of dialer functionality. In my experience they often are very limited, such as having no texting ability, no mobile option or are primarily for outbound calls only. Dialpad has a mobile app on both IOS and Android, it has a desktop app, a progressive web app and a browser based app. You can make and take calls on any platform as well as send and receive texts. Dialpad also integrates with CRM platforms like Salesforce and Hubspot, I don't know of another platform on the market that can do what Dialpad does.

For a company like ours that has teams located remotely and employees involved in a lot of business travel, which is why we use UC One, because it's an integrated tool that provides unified communication services, as well ability to meet, message and share documents in real-time has been a game-changer that is reliable and easily accessible. UC One also played a great role because it's flexible, easy to use and the implementation was facile. But there was a learning curve which was low. Overall there has been a positive ROI for my company since the initial implementation of Cisco UC One.

Unified communications from Verizon was used by us in the past when integrating Verizon mobile for our business, as we were already spending money with Verizon, and we were in need of their additional services at the time, we briefly used the suite which included Blue Jeans. However as time went by and integration of unified tools became our workflow, we no longer had a need for the additional services. Nevertheless we had a great experience.
