Secure because Unix os HDD capacity can be increased. Supported multiple applications.
The product when it works is great. It really is great. It is fast, effective, and will outlast the project that we are working on for sure. We know others who think that QNAP is top tier. I am not there right now.
Disk capacities can be increased and variety of market applications
No warranty extension. The virus definition auto updating issue is there. Reboot requirement.
Weird issue where it keeps marking drives (6 or 8) as going bad. I cannot believe that these drives are faailing at the rate that QNAP says that they are. We are sometimes getting a drive every month going south on us. These drives are under Seagate warranty, so not costing me anything more than time.

UPDATE: In the end, we found that the model of Seagate drive that we were using has a 6% failure rate. We bought a different model of drive and the drive issue went away> Seagate actually swapped the drives for free. All 12 of them. We are on our second QNAP. The first had to be replaced for several reasons including continuously marking drives as being bad (more than 6) and then a firmware corruption that hosed the entire thing. The new QNAP is 2 months old and has had 2 drives marked as failing. UGH!!!! We have had our vendor look at this and had QNAP look at it as well. QNAP support started off not good, but we got a team manager and he has been great. They better hold onto him. - MR.50M-1B USDMediaReview Source

Low cost very reliable video storage solution. Would purchase again!
Very happy with the overall performance of this storage appliance. It's relatively low cost with decent performance fit the bill on what we needed. Compared to some of the much higher priced enterprise video storage solutions, the QNAP has been very stable and reliable.
