Cisco Meraki Dashboard Alternatives

Cisco's wireless solutions are robust, stable and last for a long time. I have installed Meraki MX33, and now we upgraded to Meraki Wifi 7 AP's. The setup process was simple, quick and we were up and running in no time.

My experience with Cisco network swiches has been highly positive due to their rock solid hardware reliability and durability. The hardware excels at maintaining high uptime, providing robust access security, and handling dense enterprise traffic smoothly. What has not worked well is the complexity of the newer software licensing models and occasional minor status-caching bugs in specific IOS-XE releases. However, for core stability and network performance, it remains our preferred choice.

Fortinet AP was quite positive about the setup process being straightforward and the integration with the Fortinet security ecosystem is seamless allowing for centralized management and enhanced network visibility.Performance wise, the access point delivers reliable and strong wifi coverage with minimal latency, which is crucial for both everyday tasks and high density environments.

Aruba access points sit in the mid-price segment and deliver a broad feature set that covers a wide range of enterprise wireless networking requirements. Performance under correct configuration is genuinely strong, and the product portfolio is extensive, spanning indoor and outdoor models to accommodate diverse deployment scenarios. That said, the platform is not well suited for mid-sized IT departments without dedicated networking expertise. The configuration complexity regularly exceeds what an internal team can reasonably manage without external support, and we ultimately required a service provider to assist with the initial setup. For large-scale deployments with the right resources behind them, Aruba performs well. For organizations of our size, the overhead is difficult to justify.

The seamless integration with FortiGate via FortiLink is one of its strongest advantages, making centralized management and enforcement straightforward and efficient. It simplifies network admin, especially in environments that already use Fortinet products. The switch provides reliable performance, solid layer 2 functionality and adequate layer 3 features for most small to mid-sized deployments. Security features like 802.1x authentication, VLAN segmentation and port security are well implemented contributing to a more secure network infrastructure.

My experience with the product has been highly satisfactory, mainly because these switches stand out for their reliability and performance at the core level. However, due to their proprietary operating system (Junos), we have occasionally experienced problems updating them, as it is a difficult operating system to manage in case of unforeseen events.
