The solution is fast and automatically mounts a copy of the VM with NFS to get your machine up as quickly as possible. A 3TB VM can be up and running in 5 minutes compared to a day with unhydrated backups via other solutions. Service is a big plus and the product feedback team actually implements suggested features and fixes.
The web GUI is modern. Now, the system behind the scenes is lagging behind. It's a regular Linux without a required hardening enforcement.
It is a single product for everything, so there is no need to build servers to use for backing up products. They work with a lot of the top vendors. For example, something like Pure that will allow us to backup directly and quickly from the storage. Support is a positive service. Cohesity is also constantly evolving. Cohesity today is a better product today vs when I started with it in 2018. During that time, they've added backup for Office 365, partnerships with other vendors for cloud storage, come up with their own cloud storage solution in FortKnox and invested more into securing the data that is backed up.
The software is still much newer than legacy backup solutions and less polished, but the company takes suggestions to heart and implements improvements quickly. It's easily forgivable as the capabilities far exceed legacy backup solutions. Over the last 5 years we have seen many new features added.
Insecure and inaccurate for a segregated environment. MTU is badly managed. If a firewall is present in path, solution is struggling.
A weakness would probably be the licensing. You have to pay for backing up data and replicating data as well. The Office 365 portion is a convoluted, multi-click task to restore data. I am not sure if this will be a product or service related item specific to just Cohesity, but a session(s) with the account team to go over what we are currently paying for vs what we are using. So what else do they have to offer? Cohesity could be starting to do this now, as we recently just had a session like this. But a once a quarter meeting at a minimum would be to go over these new offerings, not just at renewal time.

The trial period was great; we were able to leverage the virtual edition to fully test features before bringing the actual hardware onsite for a POC. The solution has worked well and has outclassed our previous setup in both ease of use as well as efficiency and speed. *UPDATE* In this update I would like to share my experience with hardware support from Cohesity, as our units have now been in service for over 5 years. I received a notification from the system that the expected lifespan of one of the solid state drives was now down to 20%. Cohesity proactively replaced every one of our nodes, one at a time, so there was zero downtime to our backup cluster. This was unexpected and very welcome. They do stand behind their hardware as well as their software. I'm updating my rating of service and support to 5 stars because of this. *UPDATE 2* As a further update we have now retired our original cluster and installed a new cluster. The new cluster increased network speed, node count, and capacity. I think this is the highest compliment a review can give - we liked the solution enough to vote with our wallet a second time. *UPDATE 3* We continue to have great success with our cluster.
