Market Presence: Backup as a Service, Backup and Data Protection Platforms

Overview

Product Information on CrashPlan

Updated 13th October 2025

What is CrashPlan?

CrashPlan is a software designed for continuous backup and data protection. It enables automatic and secure backup of business data across endpoints, supporting diverse operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux. The software offers features such as file versioning, incremental backups, and data restoration, ensuring that files can be recovered in case of accidental deletion, hardware failure, or ransomware attacks. CrashPlan utilizes encryption during data transfer and storage to safeguard information, and provides configurable settings for retention policies and storage locations. It addresses business requirements for persistent data accessibility and compliance by allowing administrators central control over backup schedules and user permissions. By focusing on endpoint backup, CrashPlan helps organizations maintain data continuity, minimize risk of data loss, and support data governance practices.

CrashPlan Pricing

CrashPlan software follows a subscription-based pricing model with different plans based on storage needs and number of devices. Pricing is typically calculated per device per month or annually with options for individuals and businesses. The plans include unlimited storage for specific use cases, and additional features and support may vary by tier.

We have a relatively small deployment of CrashPlan Cloud. (Unfortunately, we don't offer the service to ALL of our users.) The service has been excellent for our needs. Support has been great and sales have been very responsive and easy to work with.

I have been very happy with Code42. We have a lot of remote workers and road warriors. It provides a high level of comfort to know that their data is being backed up. It is relatively common for the helpdesk to get a request to restore data due to user error, or loss or destruction of a laptop.
