Three things that stands out: First, the integration with thin-edge.io made connecting our devices straightforward. It removed a lot of the heavy lifting on the communication with the platform. Second, the ability to run custom microservices and applications directly on the platform is a big deal for us. It means we can build our own logic and features without leaving the platform ecosystem. Third, triggering operations to devices is clean and simple to work with from the platform, it has made several device workflows more efficient and simple from remote.
That you can use the cloud for so many different usecases and its abillity to brand the cloud for companies
1. bulk operations - deliver software/configurations to a huge batch of devices in a very quick way. - I believe the system under the hood of C8Y is made specially for this 2. very quick and easy way to find distinct devices, manage this device, adjust, etc. 3. robust system, with growing fleet, quickness of the GUI, operations, events is not decreast. Of course increase of nodes regularly are necessary. But that is taken care of very well together with my colleagues and SAG.
Default applications/views does require quite some technical knowledge in the managed object model to really utilize flexibility provided by the platform. Which makes it a bit hard sometimes for non-experts and therefore we have been building custom views/applications. Where the Web SDK and out-of-the-box Cumulocity widgets don't always fit our specific use cases, which means we end up building custom UI components more often than we'd liked. It adds development effort that we could potentially have spent elsewhere. Managing a large asset hierarchy within a single-tenant, multi-customer setup can make querying for these assets and aggregating that with device data more complex than expected. The inventory roles are tricky to define and manage, especially when we have a lot of custom fragments, which also differs between different object/device types, and where we want users to only be able to view or modify a specific set of them.
- too many clicks for easy tasks - automation is almost not possible - some prefferences seem to be implementen double and some are just reachable with Workarounds
- Groups - Smart Groups (dynamic groupping) = they are on one page together, can result in chaos, poor visibility. Too many people / opionins and such problems ;) Cumulocity is looking into an improvement though! - User management as an admin, for a lot users is a bit tough / time consuming
