What I like most about Flexera One IT Asset Management are the practical controls and insights it brings to real-world IT complexity. Few of the strengths that I have experienced:- 1. Unified visibility across assets - Instead of bouncing between spreadsheets, cloud portals and procurement systems, Flexera One gives a single view of what software and infrastructure we have, where it's deployed and how it's being used. That clarity alone has saved us time and reduced guesswork. 2. Real software usage insights - The usage tracking and optimization dashboards help identify under utilized licenses or redundant tools. That has helped us tighten our budget and avoid unnecessary renewals, which matters in annual planning cycles. 3. Actionable compliance reporting - When audits or internal reviews come up, having automated compliance data that's tied to real endpoints rather than manual checklists makes the whole process less painful. For a team juggling changes and releases, that reliability is genuinely useful. 4. Cloud cost correlation with asset data - One thing that stood out for me is that Flexera One connects software asset visibility with cloud spend. For example, in one review cycle we noticed certain non-production workloads were running continuously in the cloud even though they were only needed during testing windows. Because we could see both usage and cost impacts in one place, we were able to resize and schedule those environments properly. It wasn't a dramatic overnight savings, but over a quarter it made a noticeable difference in our cloud bill and improved accountability across teams.

The depth and accurary that brings to software asset and license management. It provides a structured and trustworthy view of entitlements versus comsumption which is critical for us that we work with different vendors (SAP, Oracle etc). A strong point for Flexera is that it clearly shows where there is over or under licensing , as it helps us proactively manage compliance risk and avoid unnecesary cost, rather than reacting during audits.
Couple of issues that I would like to highlight:- 1. Steep learning curve - It takes time to understand all the modules and map them to real business processes, especially for newer teams. 2. Initial setup workload - Getting all asset sources, connectors and data feeds configured properly can be time consuming and error prone. 3. UI feels cluttered at times - With so many features packed in, the interface can seem overwhelming and finding specific reports sometimes takes extra clicks.
Regularly the support teams do not seem to know their application. Some bugs concern basic functionalities and do not allow normal use of the application
It's not an intuitive or lightweight tool, and new users often find the interface complex and it takes time to understand how licensing logic, reconciliacion rules, and data models work. Without proper training or experienced admins, it's easy for teams to feel overwhelmed or under-utilize the platform. Another downside is the operational effort required to keep the tool accurate and valuable. The platform depends heavily on good quality input data and continuous maintenance, such as keeping contracts, entitlements and inventory up to date. For stakeholders looking for broader IT service management or end-to-end operational workflows, Flexera needs to be complemented with other tools which add integration and process complexity.
