Unlike other soho-targeting vendors, Synology continues to support quite old hardware and provides updates of its software suite. Underneath user-friendly web-based GUI there's Linux that you can access, Synology does not take active steps to discourage it - which is great, taking into account how other companies are trying prevent 'rooting'.
I would like the DMS services. User management and security service i like. Personally Hikvision comptability is awesome.
At the moment, I haven't found any negative feedback or concerns about this product.
eventually you hit the wall - eg replication of data between two NASes, even over LAN works fine for trivial sizes of data, then it takes days if not weeks to do the initial synchronization. looks like the CPU is the bottleneck.
After 30 licenses of cameras it can lac of smoothness. during restarting it can take approx 2-5 minutes to keep it up.

Having had bad experiences with other vendors, I really like how the software and hardware is working together with Synology. For example the way how you can create the RAID array using SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid) to utilize the available diskspace to the max is really a nice feature. Also having the ability to use docker (with or without the GUI) is for us a game changer. No need for extra hardware, just create the directory, download the right image and start the container and you are good to go.
